When I first heard about this, I thought about the kids arriving at school in the dark. I wonder if some businesses and schools will change their hours in the winter, effectively nullifying the change to permanent daylight time. Perhaps we'll see a variety of strategies.

I understand why some people don't like the time change, but I love it. I won't be losing an hour of sleep next weekend. Instead, I'll get up on standard time on Sunday then go to bed on daylight time. So I'll be losing an hour of my day, not my night. Looking forward to more light in the evenings!

A busy airport could mean people arriving for a vacation but it also could mean that people are using it to leave for their vacations.

Another sunny day and another bike ride. I also did a climb on the bike yesterday but the photos didn't work out. Scott Point, Salt Spring Island.

Back on the Saddle! After months of clouds and rain, the sun is shining. Looking forward to bike touring as the weather starts to warm!

Great article. The rules in BC make it hard to export fibre unless it is first turned into lumber or pulp. I hope the rules are well enforced.

I'm definitely in favour of socialized forestry.

It's going to be strange to look over from Salt Spring and not see the mill.

Good luck with everything!

I've read several articles on this topic and not one of them has mentioned that oil demand has flatlined. Wind and solar are now cheaper and the world is moving to electrification.

Okay, that makes sense, one of the Channel Islands to the right, Yeo Point on the left, Secret and Prevost Islands in the background. The distance was compressed a bit by zooming in. I was trying to put it at the entrance to Long Harbour. Thanks

I live and paddle in the area. I can't seem to place this photo. Where was it taken and what direction is it looking?

Typo in the headline. "5800 sailings" is an awful lot.

With all the people living in RVs these days, it would be great if some kind hearted safety experts could start giving free, no questions asked, safety inspections.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Keep up the good work on promoting island rail. Twenty-five plus years ago, I used to take the train with my young daughter from Victoria up to Qualicum or Nanaimo to see my dad. I loved the service.

I have looked at the ministry website. They are making safety improvements for drivers and pedestrians, including a pedestrian overpass and improvements at Finlayson Arm Rd. There is also a plan to catch road runoff.

The lack of a new lane is a red herring.

Perhaps other improvements are a higher priority but this project still looks like it is worth doing.

Traffic delays are always a temporary part of road improvements. We just went through a whole year of it here on Salt Spring.

I support rail, but I completely disagree with you on this one.

These are not dangerous conditions if people just slow down and drive carefully. Adjust speed to the conditions not the speed limit.

I don't know enough about that kind of thing, I guess the alternatives are too labour intensive. Sometimes I worry that we'll be buying cars for tens of thousands then need subscriptions just to use the radio and heated seats.

I use open source for all my personal needs but I don't run a business.

I'm not in your shoes but I can't ever see myself paying a ransom like that. I'd probably find work around if at all possible.

Canada has already faced this kind of deception before with tobacco and prescription opioids. When tobacco advertising was restricted, its use went down, and companies were ultimately held financially responsible. Fossil fuel companies should be held to the same standard.
