A year long investigation into the Hyperloop found …

🚨“For the first time in Arizona, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are using a Cold War-era law to ticket legal immigrants for minor offenses like not carrying their immigration documents, a break from the agency’s longstanding focus on people in the country illegally.”🚨
Geneva Convention 1977 Protocols:
“It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as... drinking #water installations & supplies and irrigation works... for any other motive.”
There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.
"The data labelers in Kenya described seeing footage of people naked, watching porn, and talking about crimes and protests. Faces are often blurred, the story said, but sometimes are visible, depending on the lighting."
Well, I will not be buying Meta glasses.
"You think that if they knew about the extent of the data collection, no one would dare to use the glasses”.
I didn’t have this on my identity bingo card (and i thought I had everything on there)
“It is an uncomfortable truth for tech giants: the AI revolution is to a large extent built on labor in low-income countries.”
Dehumanizing stuff that confirms that our elected officials know zip about Iran and its history and complexity, too.
“Several describe video material showing bathroom visits, sex and other intimate moments.”
“The workers in Kenya say that it feels uncomfortable to go to work. They tell us about deeply private video clips, which appear to come straight out of Western homes, from people who use the glasses in their everyday lives.”

Agents trained to lie all the time assume everyone is lying all the time.
NEW: ICE tackled + arrested Juanita Avila, an Oregon shop owner who is a legal permanent resident and had her green card in her pocket.
When she asked through sobs why they didn't believe her, one masked agent replied: “Because they lie all the time.”
Video + interview with her and her daughter:
💯💯💯💯💯
Also key to understanding their disdain and even vilification for empathy
I definitely want to hear more deep thoughts from the guy who claimed Elon Musk's purchase of twitter would "extend the light of consciousness"
Her pose and demeanor always screams “waiting to tell the next brazen lie with a smirk on my face that says ‘What are you going to do about it?’”
I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.
If you'd like to learn more about privacy by design, SVA is hosting a talk for my book Design for Privacy on Wednesday, March 25th from 4-5:30pm. This event is free, tho there's also a ticket you can buy to get a copy of the book. With snacks and drinks, too. www.eventbrite.com/e/book-talk-...
Some context for folks who may not have it: I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian community and it was split between 2 beliefs. Either 1) they believed that Jewish people were really Christians or 2) they were heathens who need to get saved. Both of those beliefs seem profoundly anti-Jewish to me.
New from 404 Media: Proton Mail, the privacy-focused email service, gave authorities data that let the FBI unmask an anonymous 'Stop Cop City' protester. It was payment data linked to the anonymous email account. From that, FBI ID'd them, then tracked their movements www.404media.co/proton-mail-...
I may or may not be the world’s first trillionaire by the end of the day.
I think one of the most staggering industry shifts in my 16 years as a tech reporter is that it’s not become a question of “should our product help the government kill and/or surveil people?” but “to what extent?”

So many more roles for her to cosplay now.
Kinda sad we live in a time here when a legitimate question is “Which white male politician with a nazi tattoo?”
Photo of two beer cans: one from Great Notion called Sticks & Stones has art depicting the Grim Reaper on a boat with skeletons clawing at the hull, and the other from Grains of Wrath has a skull against a post-apocalyptic cityscape and is called Dystopia
Noting that even my beer selections tend towards the apocalyptic these days.
imagine being a history buff and getting this random tattoo on your chest that you look at every day in the mirror and then when you watch history documentaries for the next 20 years you never notice that all the nazi uniforms had your chest tattoo on their hats?
Nothing compels me to flip so much as a dime at these companies to pay for the use of their products.
what an inspiration, a true guiding light, an aegis against attack and a lantern against the darkness, wow
If you took $1 billion and gave it to the endowment of a different small college each day, they could each provide a free college education to several hundred students per year in perpetuity. Instead we are using that money to bomb schools and kill students in Iran, for no clearly stated purpose.
