#Genealogy tip: Hit a "brick wall?” Research sidelines -- siblings, cousins, inlaws, neighbors. Sometimes their records can provide just the information you are looking for.
Do you have tips on how to grow a business? Then here's a speaking opportunity for you!
The conference is NOT about #genealogy research, but about business management, so you don't have to be a genealogist to speak at this virtual event.
Please share with relevant speakers in your network!
Fabulous! It was horrible of them to try to cheat a child.
That made me laugh! He really shoveled the snow back?

2026 so far:
Back to work yesterday after the holidays, but first drove my husband to work because of ❄️ Ended up with a flat tire. (How did I ever manage without a car? 🤔)
Today my son's school was closed due to water damage, so I home schooled him.
🤞 for better time for #genealogy tomorrow!
AI can help beyond research. “LLM Prompts for the Professional Genealogist” explores using large language models for business tasks like writing, SEO, and data organization. Practical guidance by Natalie Webb in the December 2025 APG Quarterly. #APGQ #Genealogy
Okay #genealogy folk, who is going to RootsTech? I’m thinking about going this year.
Preparing family history booklet for relatives interested but not enough to read through my boxes of files. 40-50 pages narrative history, family tree, photos, chronology, cemeteries list—what else should I include? #genealogy
Your plan sounds good.
The key is to break up the text.
Use subheadings. No long paragraphs. Use text boxes to highlight something and to break up the text. Insert images of signatures, maps, etc., especially for those ancestors where you lack photos.

Ed with his paternal grandad Henry
Ed with his mum and dad and grandad. My mum in law was born in 1924. The family emigrated to the US in 1929 but returned after 3 years. His mum missed Liverpool and her huge family!
This #postcard was given to my husband’s uncle Edgar in 1924 by his parents when he was about 5 years old. Seems a bit odd .. it’s a bit grown up and when were #NewYears cards a thing for kids!!??? My mum in law was born later that year. #FamilyHistory

Perhaps Edgar's parents received a lot of letters and Edgar had expressed that he wanted letters, too. My son said that when he was a small child and then some family members started sending him postcards.
It’s time for your Three Random Words from our 7th episode of season 10: “The Glassworker” with Lene D. Kottal @kottalgenealogy.com

That makes sense.
Today some Danish parents start with the gifts in the afternoon on Christmas Day and have dinner early, because children can't stay up late. My son is an owl, so that's never been a problem for us.
As long as there's "hygge", anything goes.
What’s one place you wish you could see as it looked in their time? Historic courthouse? A long-gone neighborhood? A family farm no longer standing?

The first apartment where my mom lived with her parents and siblings as a baby and small child. An old 3rd-floor apartment in the back building across the yard. They were poor, but my grandma knew how to make ends meet.

If only it was that easy today. Many children today hate reading 😞
Thank you for trying to help me.
Have a nice day!
They do behind the scenes.
If you tap "translate" on a post, you will be redirected to Google translate. The translate-from language is the language set for that post.
I think Bluesky fetches the default compose language from the browser. It is only an issue on the computer, not the phone app.
I have not actively chosen to have Danish as the default compose language. It is not a keyboard issue, but a Bluesky issue. If you look next to the character count when composing, you can see the compose language. Mine says Danish for new posts. I want that default changed to English.
Unless I change the post language, my posts are stored as being in Danish, not English. Thus, they will not show up in someone else's feed, unless they set their settings to include Danish posts.
The app language is English, but that doesn't affect the compose language.
I can compose in English, but I would like to not have to change the language of the post every time.
So the question is: How do I change the default compose language?
Funny 🤣 Did she send you back to bed?
It’s time for some festive digging into your family tree 🎄🧬 How close to the North Pole can you get through one of your ancestors? Lapland? Alaska? Northern Scotland? Tell us below ❄️👇
As a Dane, I have wondered how children can fall asleep on Christmas Eve in countries where gifts are given on Christmas Day. And how do they not get up at 3 am to open the gifts?

Can I set the default language for my own posts to English? If so, how?
The three available language settings don't seem to make a difference on this issue.
The default is currently Danish, but I rarely post in Danish.

Don't look at the white space. Look at all the color you managed to put on your tree!
Where was Ernst Christian Kisky born?
