Note that this is the exact opposite of what Trump wanted. He is more extreme than his father and now has the added incentive of revenging his father’s death.

Mojtaba Khamenei was not seen publicly after airstrikes targeting the supreme leader's offices killed his father at the start of the war. His wife, Zahra Haddad Adel, who came from a family long associated with the country's theocracy, was also killed in the strike.

Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is 56, which means he was 10 in the 1979 revolution.

That makes him the first leader of Iran without memories of life under the Shah or the revolution itself (beyond kid recollection, at least).

Like John Quincy Adams, the first post-revolutionary leader.

It is reported that Iran selected Mojtaba Khamenei in part because Trump said in an interview that he was "unacceptable" to Trump.

So Trump has ensured the person running Iran is *more* theocratic and hates the US for killing his wife and father. Well done, Donald!
