The internet as it exists is unprofitable, too unwieldy for any one entity. But it was never meant to be. It was meant to be a million little servers holding a tiny piece of it.
If you could spend like, $5 a month to keep the internet working for you and your friends, I think most people would.
I think someone should create a quick installer to let people run a matrix instance on an old laptop or something. Like, get the software installed and connected to cloudflare or a vps. I think more people would use federated platforms if that were possible. I think that's the solution to discord.
Rapidly ping-ponging in my head between "making things easier to use benefits everyone not just beginners" and "tools should have some level of friction to encourage learning and curiosity" and I'm starting to get dizzy

Every time people tell me they have no talent, this is what I want to tell them.
I sucked at drawing for a long time until I stopped being so hard on myself; I just started pushing past my flaws and trying and trying again. It's not instant, but you learn! It's a beautiful thing.
I'm a programmer/math guy by heart, but for so long I shoved myself into my niche and told myself I was "too technical" for drawing. Now I'm fairly confident in my abilities. Still working on it but I'm proud of how far I've come.
