It reflects well on a society when folks can unironically write songs like βRasputinβ

The Anthropic writeup of the study is also surprisingly and refreshingly even handed
Had a chuckle, but honestly for folk who havenβt already learnt how to Build Stuff Goodly, this is a bit terrifying - the obligation to use the tools to _go fast_, without ever building a the muscles to properly supervise them
Clawdbot too powerful/terrifying for you? Introducing Geoff - a boring alternative - built _just for me_. Maybe all this AI vibe coding furor can usher back in the dream of PERSONAL computing - tools built by regular folk to scratch their own, particular itches.
Itβs time for another blog on #systems engineering - this time about calling conventions - how do compilers emit machine code that let functions call each other, when the underlying CPU architecture has no concept of functions? Not sooo useful for building REST APIs, but nonetheless interesting :)
I switched a bunch of stuff I was running in the #homelab from k3s to plain old docker-compose, and dropped from 20% idle CPU usage to < 4%. CPU now spending about 80% of of its time in C7!
I don't _need_ k8s for this stuff, and power is expensive, so ....
Thrilled to announce chapter 09 of the Rust Lambda book.
In this one, we cover all things observability. If you're struggling to really understand your serverless applications, this one's the one for you.

James Eastham and my latest video on software dev is up! We try to distill down when it makes sense and when not to microservice, hopefully without alienating too many folks. Have a listen and let us know what you think!
Astro and cloudflare pages ! Pretty happy.
Yup
Incy Wincy Spider is Sisyphus for kids
Annaβs Archive backing up all of Spotify is like a feel good version of the GenAI folks stealing everyoneβs copyrighted content to train their models
@jameseastham.co.uk and I are back again talking about software engineering! This time, we dive into API-first design - what it's good for, and how you can get started with it.
Let us know what you think!

Not sure anyone I know on here cares, but it brings me great sadness that Scott aren't producing tele boots anymore

US State Department abolishing use of "Calibri" in documents because it is quote too diverse end quote is the most absurdly The Onion news I have read this year, and that is saying something
This time they said βthis wouldnβt have happened if we used Rust instead of lua!β. I am satisfied.
#cloudflare down again? Hopefully wont blame rust this time π₯Ή
The season of having my heart continuously broken by the snow forecast is upon us
Cool! This wording with _friction_ is exactly how my internal monologue goes. Especially with e.g. learning things - without actual friction - without struggle (cuz you're outsourcing your brain) - you're not growing.
Iβd love to see some big moves to tangled ! Decentralized identity feels important here
Congrats to our APM team on the preview release of dd-trace-rs! Now we have a nice opinionated datadog tracer for Rust folks π₯°

@jameseastham.co.uk and I have released the inaugural _second episode_ (coughs loudly) of our video series on modern software development - this time on James' favourite thing, **Event Storming** - a great tool to dive into a domain you're about to build something in!
Come listen to @jameseastham.co.uk and I ramble about software architecture!
Had a great time at @vdthess.bsky.social over the last few days talking about software quality. Enormous thanks to Pat and the rest of the organisers for putting on a great event!
