Alfie the cat, in my arms.
Goodbye to our cat Alfie, who left us last night far too soon and suddenly.

My new four track EP is now up on Bandcamp, other streaming platforms to follow this week. The BC version has extras (full extended version of TNTBAVG and instrumental versions of all the above), everywhere else gets the standard four tracks.

I've never fully subscribed to autograph (or celebrity) culture. I don't mind a signed book or record as a memento of a particular encounter at a concert, reading or whatever. A signed wallpaper swatch because someone bothered Chris Lowe in Wickes, not so much.
When I finally got my own turntable in my bedroom it was well into the CD era, so suddenly all the vinyl was being sold in bargain boxes under the tables in the record shops I went to. My teenage vinyl diving owes a lot to this specific window of opportunity.
Tapes were the dominant format in our house, even though the sound quality was overwhelmingly cack. I went for years thinking Miles Davis' Devil May Care was recorded without a bass, which I thought added freedom to the number. I did a version for my BA final recital with voice and drums only.
Mine would have been from a box of 7" singles my parents had from the 60s. The three I remember were Adam Faith - What Do You Want, Rolling Stones - All Over Now and Tommy Bruce & the Bruisers - Ain't Misbehavin'.
Ok, wrong end of stick. Also I realise I asked a cat to praise a dog, which was foolish with hindsight.
Lots of good sax around at the moment that's nothing like Careless Whisper or Baker Street.
Start with Fat Dog.
For me it's this one. It sat unfinished on his shelf for about ten years until his death, it seems he wrote it during a particularly heated confrontation with his Dad over romantic issues. So perhaps it was too personal for him to put out there.

There's a difference between early and late Mozart, from the prodigy toast of Royalty to the guy who fell out with his Dad, got booted down the palace stairs when his music wasn't diddly enough and predicted his own damnation when writing his requiem.
Garbage's Shirley Manson on the terrible new reality facing up and coming bands, which turns out to be my standard experience of touring over the years.

Now I'm imagining Tomorrow Belongs To Me as a sea chanty.
That would work as an essay topic.
Guy Siner as camp Nazi officer Lieutenant Hubert Gruber, from sitcom 'Allo 'Allo.
Fashion plate.
After way too long (over 3 years!) I finally have new music almost ready for release. The album Ballyhoodunnit will be done next year, heralded soon with a 5 track EP. Here's the draft artwork for the EP - still working on the concept, but I seem to have developed a taste for punny titles.
By coincidence I just watched that video and thought the same thing. I'd forgotten about children's variety / street duos, which is weird considering how much time I spent around that scene way back when. Thing and Related Thing is the default for any act built around club passing.
...so for token two I cheered up with:
Mighty Mighty Bosstones- Someday I Suppose

Token one is a weepie.
Queen - These Are The Days Of Our Lives

I'm not counting fictional acts directly referencing the trope, such as Cheese and Crackers (Inside Number 9) or any combination of Fish, Chip, Pin and Cushion (Mitchell & Webb)
Though often trotted out as an overused vintage pop culture trope, how many double acts with improbably complementary surnames (Thing and Related Thing) were there actually?
I can only think of four:
Cannon & Ball
Little & Large
Hinge &Bracket
(Mr) Flotsam and (Mr) Jetsam
Who have I missed?
Good luck reaching the processing centre with all that stuff flytipped outside.
RIP to a giant. Always uplifting, always cool as F, no-one ever owned an instrument like he did the vibes.
Poo Poo La La means we love you, Roy.

Immediate gut reaction? That they'd got the singer from Erasure playing guitar.
5 things I've learned over time. What are yours?
---
1 - Dreams & ambitions are different things.
2 - Make your mistakes early.
3 - The best revenge is to do it anyway.
4 - If art can't be problematic, it can't be art.
5 - Put your demons where you can see them (see 4).
Having downloaded my archive from the House that Elon Wrecked I've been going through the media folder finding random stuff I'd posted completely out of context.
Apparently at some point this was called for.
