Drop a teacher.
Oh, well... I thought I could just answer this conundrum myself with a small Pico8 snipped. :D
And, indeed, the order of operations when drawing an object is TRANSPARENCY and then MAPPING.
Transparency applies to the source colors, like expected.
I need some help from my fellow Pico-8 users out there. Regarding `pal()` and `palt()`, in what order are they conceptually applied? Is transparency applied to the original pixel color, or to the remapped one?

Well... you are awesome nonetheless!
( Playing guitar is a really demanding and hard endeavor )
It's such an awesome chord. One can use as a passing one and resolve "conventionally", or hold it and... woah. :)
In rock/metal music, however, is used quite a bit...
( you are good at music!!! )
I was raised listening to EVH, sus4 chords are my bread an butter! ๐ฅฐ
( but examples of Sus4 and Sus2 chords are more common than most casual users could think )
Ooooh...
... as a guitarist myself, and EVH lover, I can't approve more. โค๏ธ
Tiertex was, sadly, well-known back then for sucking at home conversions from the arcade games...
This game was amazing. Top-notch graphics and gameplay. Badass music. I loved it.

So...
... texture double-buffering and PBO ring implemented.
The upload and draw phases of the rendering system are as detached as possible (for now).
Now, on to reworking the transparency management to improve performance even more.
#gamedev #indiedev #gamengine
Adding both texture double (or triple) buffering AND a decoupling PBOs ring-buffer has proved simpler than expected.
No longer CPU x GPU stalls! Yatta! :)

I'm heavily reworking the OpenGL backend of my game engine, once again.
I want to squeeze performances and keep my software renderer. :D
Current phase: adding triple-buffering, considering PBOs...

I'm still in complete awe...
I just learned my new favourite foreign word: smoutebollen.

I guess I'll hang my keyboard on the wall and go and do something different, just like gardening...

Longtime favourite of mine... <3
I could listen to Matt's songs and remixes all day long.
I will do it! :D
And you should too!!!

thanks for saying y'all like the interface. I *was* a UI artist at minecraft for a year and a half :)
This game was my first step in RPGs (and then, indirectly, AD&D). I knew nothing about RPGs before this game. It was... magical, to me.
Too bad. It's such an awesome anime.
I've released an asset pack containing essentials, it's 10kb with default UV texture and < 1kb without so please game engine makers: include this by default.
(Open for suggestions to add more!)

LoL! My engine has it, for many purposes! :) To be specific it's a 1x1 indexed image with transparency (that can be optionally disabled and color-remapped
I watched it when I was 13 y/o or something, back in the '80s... I was genuinely terrified but thrilled! :D
My pleasure! ๐
Usually, I have a debug flag that enables the first ~10 minutes to run normally... then, everything is sped up increasingly to simulate days/weeks of continous play in a matter of minutes. :)
( while keeping the update delta-time fixed, of course )
