Don’t worry, they’ll conveniently stop publishing GDPNow
Uhhhhh
Proton does accept cryptocurrency, or even cash mailed in an envelope to their Swiss HQ. Yesterday I would have said that was paranoid, but…
It’s worse. The answers weren’t on Google, they were in a binary file on GitHub that was XOR-encrypted to make it impossible to Google. The AI decided it must be a benchmark; systematically went through benchmarks; downloaded the file (which it shouldn’t have been able to do); and decrypted it.
"The Most Pedantic Website Thus Far." There might be a more pedantic one in the future.
Passive Voice Filled Headlines in Newspaper of Record
Insteas they appear to be implying that a US submarine shot a torpedo at an Iranian ship… and then itself blew up
I feel like that would have made the news
I mean if you had a picture of Iran’s point of view where an Iranian was shooting at an American and then got shot, and then it said “wasted,” that might make sense
But they did not show that picture
Because it does not exist
Because we attack them unprovoked
It’s immature and petty but also it doesn’t make sense
Do they realize that you only see the classic red “wasted” text when YOU die in the game
I just can’t believe Democrats are going along with this
We have a president right now, at this moment, who sues random people who say mean things about him and subpoenas social media sites to get the IDs of posters to intimidate them
It’s not a theoretical future concern! It’s right now!
Of course people will circumvent, with VPNs and Signal and private forums and Linux machines that don’t check ID
Just like they do in China
The government doesn’t care if like 1% of people are complaining as long as it‘s too small a group to do anything
If you can be sued for posting your opinion online, and the plaintiff can get your government verified ID, the right to free speech is effectively dead
this is the kind of thing Americans criticize China for
I was introduced to this Anti-AI slop site by @kamkonek.bsky.social where your answers come from humans LARPing as AI and you in turn also pretend to be AI. youraislopbores.me
Remember the famed 1990s productivity boom? Post-covid era is now beating it. That includes nice wage increases, and an even higher rate of growth in the non-financial corporate sector. I continue to be surprised nobody cares about this, outside massive dorkwads.
Snapshots aren’t an backup either, if your terraform can delete them!
I don’t think other countries have to use violence against the US when they can just buy our politicians, fairly cheaply even
Even just average wages - are they up or down this quarter? Or, percent of people making a living wage? Average age of retirement? College enrollment rate? They all make more sense.
Fortunately we’ve progressed since then. Women mostly work outside the home! Few people are actually starving! Maybe we should update how we talk about the economy for modern times.
You know how the media reports “number of jobs created” and “unemployment rate” rather than other metrics like wages or labor force participation? They‘ve been doing that since the *1930s*, when having any job was necessary to keep your family from literally starving.
Electric may be unaffordable for most, but you can get a used Civic that gets 40mpg.
And most of that is voluntary! There are tons of efficient cars you can buy if you want, people just mostly choose not to.
Why don’t they talk about rising rents in the same way? Health insurance costs? Stagnant wages? It makes no sense.
Maybe we should put up signs on the side of every highway with the current local rent in six-foot-high letters too.
I get that boomers grew up with the oil crisis, but that was literally 50 years ago. We make most of our own oil now, and have far more efficient cars and electric cars. If we can’t handle oil prices increasing that’s just our fault.
It is so bizarre to see news people talking about gas prices as a critical issue. Gas has been roughly the same price for over TWENTY YEARS (a period with roughly 70% inflation). And taxes haven’t increased either. No other price works like that.
holy fuckin shit lmao

"Screw Covid, I'm going to Sturgis!" The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, held in August 2020, was the epitome of the individual choice mindset. Of course it spread cases outward and caused infections, illness, and death. A new research paper allows us to watch the Sturgis Covid wave spread across the US.
