🎁 Just before the holidays, the EU Commission granted Big Tech its Christmas wish-list: an unprecedented attack on our digital rights.

Strong statements from those affected: the travel ban is "an authoritarian attack on free speech and an egregious act of government censorship". The actions of administration officials are "immoral, unlawful and un-American”. Full support and solidarity ✊

@mathver.bsky.social and I were already thinking about this in 2023, trying to assess how ChatGPT could be designated as a VLOP or VLOSE (see: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....). Today, the landscape is bit more complex, but I am looking forward to see what the Commission will eventually decide to do!
My colleagues @laurelinelmn.bsky.social and @mathver.bsky.social shared some thoughts on the DSA's application to OpenAI with TPP! See also their great analysis on the topic here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

If you think this is US-only, it's not.
If you think the GDPR protects you, it's doesn't.
If you hadn't realised privacy is a national security and corporate espionage issue, it is.
If you think politicians can't tackle this, they can.
If you believe that tech or business need this, they don't.
We'll be at #PrivacyCamp25 tomorrow! Join our colleague @lutecia.bsky.social at 9:55 to discuss all things strategic litigation. Our colleagues @nickbotton.bsky.social and @laurelinelmn.bsky.social will also be around, come chat with us!
