Aww 🥰 Salford at its best. Well done Rowan, you’re making people smile and showing the power of small acts of kindness. 👏

Pleasure to join Jenni from Salford Loaves and Fishes in Parliament for a reception with Homeless Link, hosted by Lord Best OBE. Great to hear more about the £37m “Ending Homelessness in Communities” fund and how it can strengthen local responses here in Salford.

The Iranian regime is abominable but the initial strikes on Iran were neither defensive nor lawful. As this dangerous war escalates, hundreds of innocent civilians are dead across the Middle East and UK personnel and citizens are at risk. Urgent action is needed to secure an immediate ceasefire.
Out and about in Swinton Park speaking to residents with Team Salford Labour Councillors and members, picking up lots of casework. Thanks to everyone we spoke to and those who came along.

If you are a Salford family with a child with Down syndrome and would like to get involved, please do get in touch. (2/2)
Poster on a cork noticeboard promoting “A Little Extra”, a peer support group in Salford for families of children with Down’s Syndrome. The poster features paint-splash artwork and reads: “All ages welcome. Saturday mornings 10.30–12.30pm at The Broughton Hub, 50 Rigby Street, Salford M7 4BQ.” It describes an inclusive environment with play opportunities, sensory crafts and a small outdoor area. Contact email: alittleextra2023@gmail.com . Phone: 07512 848 054 (Pete). Instagram: @a_little_extra_salford. Rebecca Long-Bailey MP branding appears at the bottom with the slogan “Putting Salford first.”
I recently visited A Little Extra in Broughton, a brilliant peer support group for families of children with Down syndrome.
The group is entirely volunteer-led and provides a lifeline for parents navigating health, education and benefits systems. (1/2)
Sad to learn of the passing of Salfordian writer Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf. A hugely talented storyteller whose work brought joy to millions and put sharp, distinctive British comedy on the map. My thoughts are with his family, friends and all who loved his work.
Get yourself down to The Brewers, Canal Street this Saturday (28th February) and support Weaste Pride raising funds for George House Trust 🌈
Charity Bingo, cash prizes and big laughs with Shania Pain. Doors 3pm, eyes down 3.30pm, £10 cash.
A brilliant afternoon for a vital local charity 💖
Good to be out in Gorton and Denton this morning supporting the brilliant Angeliki Stogia 🌹
If you’re voting in Gorton and Denton today, back Labour. Let’s get on with delivering for Greater Manchester. #VoteLabour
I told Parliament that we must reverse retrospective changes, fix unfair interest rates and move towards abolishing tuition fees with a sustainable, publicly funded model. (2/2)
The marketisation of higher education has failed. Graduates are paying back tens of thousands only to see their debt grow exponentially. That is unfair and undermines trust. (1/2)
Very concerning incident at Manchester Central Mosque last night. Thanks to the vigilance of volunteers and the swift response of police, a more serious situation was avoided. Islamophobia and hatred has no place in society. Everyone must be able to worship in peace and safety.
Next though, if we are serious about tackling poverty, we must look at the wider benefit cap. We cannot remove one barrier while leaving another in place. (2/2)
I spoke in Parliament this week in support of scrapping the two-child limit. Ending it will lift 450,000 children out of poverty by 2030 improving health and life chances. It's preventative policy at its best. (1/2)

Pleased to join Fire Brigades Union outside Parliament for the #CutsKill campaign launch. Since 2010, over 12,000 firefighter posts have been cut, fire cover reduced and response times stretched. Fewer firefighters on engines and in control rooms puts lives at risk.

Save the date!
Salford City Council are opening the doors of Buile Hill Mansion. Visitors welcome on Saturday 21st March, 1pm–4pm.
We need an urgent, independent and transparent inquiry into the activities of Labour Together and APCO, alongside stronger legislation to prevent the corporate surveillance of journalists. (2/2)
I spoke in Parliament as Chair of the @nujofficial.bsky.social Parliamentary Group. We’ve long campaigned for press freedom abroad, but surveillance and political intimidation of journalists now an appears to be a threat closer to home. (1/2)
From Sunday 1st March, you can use your TfGM concessionary pass to travel free at any time, including before 9.30am, on all buses across Greater Manchester.

His contribution to our city, from the Quays to neighbourhood policing initiatives, leaves a lasting legacy.
My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. Salford has lost a giant of local Government.

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Councillor David Lancaster MBE.
For nearly six decades, David gave his life to public service in Salford, championing regeneration, community safety and opportunity for local people.

Representation, not red tape. ❌
Today, most of the Tories' 2016 Trade Union Act was scrapped, removing restrictions designed to tie unions up in knots. Now our unions can get on with representing members and fighting for better pay and conditions. labourunions.org.uk/deliverinfull/
Lent begins today with Ash Wednesday, marking the start of a 40 day period of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter. For those observing, I hope this season brings peace, renewal and time to focus on what matters most.
Wishing everyone observing Ramadan a peaceful and meaningful month. May it be a time of reflection, compassion and togetherness, bringing comfort and strength to you and your loved ones.
Happy Lunar New Year! 🏮 Wishing everyone in Salford and beyond who are celebrating happiness, prosperity, and good fortune in the Year of the Horse.
Always listening, always working for Salford. 🌹
