as my spouse remarked to me this morning, "you can feel it too"
The thing missing from most city paid parking plans is VALUE. No one wants to pay for parking! Itβs true. No one wants to pay for anything!
If you pay for a meter or parking space that you had to circle the block forever to get, what was the value?
Go big or go home on this.
Freedom's just another word for not having to sit in a car on a road at the same time as lots of other people who are also sitting in cars.
i spent all summer organizing for dedicated transit lanes against typical toronto nimbys who claimed that "emergency vehicles would get stuck in traffic and more people would die"
anyways, here's real life:
Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.
If you're in the Baltimore area, interested in transportation, and haven't taken this course yet, please consider applying! It's a great way to network, but perhaps more importantly it arms you with the information you need to make a difference in your community.
Generally, he said, that authority is well placed. Council doesnβt have time to βrefereeβ millions of little bylaw deviations in construction β it needs to focus on big-picture zoning policy. If it werenβt for the committee, all council would have time for is minor variance requests, he said. And if decisions were left solely to planning staff, he said that would create a lack of transparency. The tradeoff is that by delegating to the committee, council loses its say in these matters. It canβt overturn committee decisions.
I dunno, I feel like ultimately the goal should be to have zoning rules in place that donβt require βmillions of little bylaw deviationsβ just to get housing built. www.thestar.com/news/gta/six...
got to admit i didn't think his "we have a backup plan" amounted to just doing the thing that's been ruled illegal anyway, but even more this time
play stupid games, win stupid prizes
"you look happier"
thanks i took the bus here
Yesterday's human sacrifice is tomorrow's heavy taxation? "Congratulations: you've won capitalism. Your prize is getting to live an incredibly privileged life while contributing back to your community for a life well lived. Your success and continuing contributions will be revered."
I'm uh, not saying we need to bring back human sacrifices, but there's something very poetic about pushing talented or lucky individuals to retire at the peak of their success. I think we'd generally live in a much more equitable world if this was the going philosophy reinforced by govt policy.
Recently I learned from my ChichΓ©n ItzΓ‘ tour guide that the Maya sacrificed their best warriors and athletes to the gods. Your likeness was carved into stone to cement your legacy forever, and served as a kind of societal self-correction mechanism.

Oh, we're all off Discord now. I use Witchhazel now. Lindworm doesn't let you stream your screen. Paprika is actually a foreign surveillance app. Dude, send me your Dingo. I can't sign up for Jester Plus. I don't like the UI for Cabinet's mobile app. Just toss me your Spork. We're on Spork now.
A fabricated statement from Nintendo of America's Twitter account addressing a fictitious scenario in which the Earth's oxygen supply is presumed to be depleting at a rapid pace, leaving humanity with mere days to live. "This is Miyamoto. On behalf of everyone who is employed at Nintendo Co. LTD and its subsidiaries, we deeply mourn the countless human lives which will be lost due to the depletion of the global oxygen supply. To anyone who has ever played one of our games, we are eternally grateful to have created long-lasting fun and memories for you. To ease the suffering of families and children across the world, the Mario Kart World game for the Nintendo Switch 2 system will be available as a free download on Nintendo eShop for the foreseeable future. We hope this small gesture of kindness will ease the pain as humanity prepares for a worst-case scenario." The statement is distastefully plastered with logos for Nintendo and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as with a render of Mario from Mario Kart World.
A fabricated Twitter thread responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement. John Default Profile Picture: "No one read this statement and thought it was distasteful? Why did Miyamoto think this would help anyone?" NintenDeen: "Simple: Nintendo is so depraved that they'd exploit a global crisis to boost the player count of the failed Mario Kart World and force consumers back into the Switch 2 ecosystem to boost sales and player numbers."
A fabricated Twitter thread responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement. PlayStation Nation: "What the fuck are you doing falsely advertising sales during these trying times? I went to the website and Mario Kart World is still selling for $80 USD." Kremling Kevin: "If you actually read the statement, it clearly says the discount is available on Nintendo eShop. Meaning the application on the Switch 2 itself, not the web browser version." PlayStation Nation: "Point still stands."
A fabricated Tweet responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement. Isaboner: "Nothing for Switch 1 owners?"
Had a dream that there was global panic about the world running out of oxygen, Nintendo was the only video game company to make a statement about it, and the internet collectively spent its final hours on Earth debating whether Nintendo was being genuine or not
people around the world, not just in America, continue to see whatever they want to see in that man and his administration regardless of who he actually is or what he actually stands for
Canada agreed to pay for the full cost of construction, land acquisition on the US side, and connecting Interstate highway links, AND also isn't charging tolls on the US side of the bridge. This amounts to saying America should be allowed to steal Canadian money.
We independently track on-time performance and more (but not ridership) at ariesfortransit.com if you want something to at least hold you over in the meantime.
A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

The violent occupation of Minneapolis started with a vlog. I've wanted to find a framework to describe Nick Shirley & others like him: "Influencer" is too quaint. "Journalist" is obviously wrong.
I landed on "slopagandist."

An urban street canyon at night after a major snowfall, with tall apartment buildings on both sides and deep, unplowed snow marked by a few tire tracks.
