Cinema Africa continued last night with the screening of Katanga – The Dance of the Scorpions by Dani Kouyaté. The film, an African reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, was followed by a post-screening discussion led by Marie Nadège Tsogo Momo in conversation with director Dani Kouyaté.

Cinema Africa 2026 opened last night at Cineplex Bayreuth with the screening of The Anchorage of Time marking the official start of this year’s festival programme. The evening began with a live musical performance by Stewart Sukuma and Matchume Zango, whose music set the tone for the screening.
From Sunday to Wednesday, Cinema Africa returns to Cineplex Bayreuth with an exciting line-up of African films, starting with a Mozambican feature plus live musical performances to open the festival. 🎟️ Tickets are available via the Cineplex website/app and at the box office.

The Fisherman follows Atta Oko, a Ghanaian fisherman who teams up with a talking fish and his young companions Shasha, Kobina, and Emmanuel on a journey to Accra in pursuit of their dream of owning a boat.

Set in the imaginary kingdom of Ganzurgu, the film follows King Pazouknaam, who narrowly escapes a coup and appoints his cousin Katanga as head of the army to secure his rule.
