Tech journalist. DC-based again after a decade in Asia. Occasionally cranky. Too much #AI, #semiconductors, #EDA, socmed, climate and way too much Sino-US rivalry. Dogs, horses and #MUFC. #COYBIG Did some footy finance thing many moons ago.

Reddit screenshot from Glasgow thread. Bright flames rising out the side of a Victorian building.
Video screenshot from Reddit. Building is now a shell with flames visible in every window.
The roof has collapsed embers rise into the night sky.
The fire at Glasgow central station is utterly devastating. Shops, homes and our transport link to England are being wiped out.
I am amazed by the limited news coverage.
FFS, this is how it all started 73 YEARS AGO.

This is the Platonic ideal of a social media exchange, never again to be equaled or even attempted:
You have to love the way the 'fiber' on the Google bag has been rewritten by the folds.

If you thought the memory crisis was bad have you heard yet about what the war in the middle east could do to the place where the overwhelming majority of the memory chips are made?

Is there a bit of Korean coat-tugging going on towards the US here? Would Trump strategically redirect the LNG exports going to Europe now to Korea and Taiwan, and expand access to the US helium reserve given semis' importance to both AI and ordnance? His transactional nature suggests he well might.
this is yet another big downside to the decline of news outlets. It used to be that you could find out about a new restaurant, art show, band, book, etc. by reading your local paper. Now, we have to rely on word of mouth or social media campaigns, which are much more dependent on your networks.
3/3 Michelangelo's grocery list. Because even great artists have to eat! Especially on their birthday, and his is today.
2/2 βI'm bent like a bowβ: Michelangelo complains about painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and draws his only self-portrait!
Born on this day in 1475, Michelangelo Buonarroti. Sculptor, painter, architect, poet. One of the true greats. Here, unfinished portrait of him by, perhaps, Daniele da Volterra, 1544.

BBC1 6pm flagship news show. Starmer makes a major statement on the attack on Iran, the BBC get reaction from 3 national party leaders. Spot which party is missing?
Clue: they won a by election last week, have been above the Lib Dems in polls for ages.
Break it to her gently: "Ms Noem. Congratulations. You just broke the Internet."
Mahmood (and Labour) just miss the point again. Itβs like they learn nothing from the by-election. They keep going as if being more like Reform is winning back voters (it is not). Itβs like Labour have no political antennae at all. Creasy is correct here.
