One of the reasons I love working on my product (strich.io) is that it's rooted in the physical world. To test it, you need to go out in the field. The store manager of the supermarket that I just went to for testing asked me "what the hell are you doing?" 😂

On my 2nd job, this once happened to me and a co-worker. We were ended up being the only two engineers who came to the office that day. After a morning of light work, we went barhopping and became a good friends. Before that, we hardly spoke to each other.

I realized this recently as well when I spoke to a colleague who owns and runs a small SaaS business. They were raving about how it eliminates so much of the drudgery of coding. And I’m like, “what drudgery?”
This was interesting to read. At the risk of sounding like a therapist, how did that way of working on a complex codebase make you feel? Frankly it sounds exhausting. The lack of a good mental model is something that would bother me tremendously. I think it pays dividends in future productivity.
