Kinetic novel would be easy to make. But if you want to make something like a complex VN like Fate/stay Night or something, you're gonna have to take the time and learn Renpy.
As far as a dungeon crawler, may be better off with something like RPG Maker, but I don't know shit about it unfortunately.
In my experience, it was suffering, but I have the knowledge of a potato.
It depends on how complex of a VN you want to make, but I was able to figure out Ren'py (kinda). Basic knowledge of scripting helps, went in with no knowledge. You can steal stuff from the tutorial VN that comes with Ren'py.
