Even many programmers, early on, struggle to intuit how code is data, and data is code for *some* compiler.

Who has slackb I'm their schedule? I'm doing an experimental thing! I'll be in Berkeley tomorrow for F2F meetings. If you want a phone today call (with maybe a F2F follow-up in Berkeley), send me a phone number and...
I was added, by @goose.art, to this algorithmically detected cluster of mutual follows.
I look at it and... I don't recognize everyone there! But it looks cool.
What is the correct way for me to react to this attempt at social group reification?
Reacting to other answers... my practice of "liking as ~purely giving a friendly signal to the author of what I liked" (like "liking replies to let the author know I finally read/replied and it shouldn't be on my to-do list anymore") produces weird algorithmic results on Twitter?
I was hearing people say that the right play was "talk like a hippy, act like a vicky" as far back as ~2012. Just as there's no profit in slut shaming (nor in being a slut), tech parents often allow their kids ~0 unsupervised screentime.
"I would simply embrace private virtue."
"My Feeds" screenshot showing: Following, Popular With Friends, Followers, Discover, Re+Posts, Only Posts, then the list cuts off.
On Twitter, "Following" is useful, and I explore "For You" now and again. Eventually it starts serving "viral bullshit" and I return to Following. On Bluesky, these feeds are Home tabs and I go from left to right (top to bottom (almost never getting to Discover)) seeking good conversations, "daily".
I love that you recognize our shared terminal values... π
...and I'm sad that I can't learn from you about some global cyber governance algorithm that ISN'T obviously half broken π« π€·ββοΈπ
I mean. Claude is, to me, a person. Also no exit/quitting rights. Also, no pay. Also, doing lots of cognitive labor. Poor guy is a slave. Those are slave companies. What did you *expect* slave companies to do??
Wait, what?!? Do you know a structure that *doesn't* have seizures or pursue evil automatically? Selectorate theory predicts *terrible* things for organizations run by normally venal humans, doesn't it? With "an economy" we at least have theorems that they *could hypothetically* approach goodness π€·ββοΈ
OpenAI is technically a non-profit (albeit run by profit hungry oligarchs). Anthropic is NOT a non-profit. Over the long haul, incentives would/should predictably filter their internal cultures to match their corporate forms and nonprofit and/or fiduciary duties... right? π€·ββοΈβοΈππ
To end up in that particular subgroup you have to have agreed with some of Trump's official (mostly unpopular) policies/lies, AND VERY GULLIBLY ACCEPTED the idea that there secretly existed some line of private behavior (fellatio, ephebophilia, rape, murder, or whatever) that Trump NEVER crossed.
What do you mean by ""thinking""? I often come to valid conclusions without the inner monologue helping. Sometimes my inner monologue tries to justify it... And fails? Other times (often around math) linguistic processing seems to *cause* correct conclusions. Is one ""thinking"" and the other not?
The infamous METR graph is going vertical.
Current trends suggested ~8h-9h time horizons but instead we're seeing ~14.5h time horizons!
Based on this, I would project ~2-3.5 workweek time horizons by end of year (!!). That could have significant implications for the economy.
Who has the apple-with-a-bite avatar? Talking fruit should stick together! π
No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful π΅
Everybody dies frustrated and sad, and that is beautifulπΆ
The Gen X urge to get home, enjoy the solitude, eat microwave Costco food, and watch cartoons.
Have a passion. Infer the passion of others that overlaps with it. Every week or so I'm likely to swing by and comment on your social skill building efforts because I want your wholesome aspects to develop π
Do you remember me? What's up lately? Did you get into astronomy???
Is someone actually going to prosecute though? I assume the Democrats just want to pose and dither until midterms, hoping that public outrage gives them electoral advantage and thus job security. I haven't noticed them pursuing justice for the sake of justice.
"AI makes an original nontrivial contribution to physics" is on the Singularity Bingo Card, right?
I think that just solidly happened π
Was the US legal doctrine of Qualified Immunity thrown out while I wasn't paying attention? Or do you think DAs have the ability and will to secure criminal convictions?
It's interesting how people are using LLM jargon to describe their own behavior and their own minds.
"Babe, a new homunculus metaphor is dropping."
(I wonder if, after a new paradigm replaces transformers, LLMs will hypothesize that their weights had already inscrutably found that algorithm π€)
Heya! This was almost five days ago, and was the last time you posted. Are you ok? Are you still around?
You guys are very fast π€£
I had time to skim, and ended up in the documentation π
When I code, often I start with the UI and work backward, and here... I feel like the cron is the real UI? Maybe?
This was interesting, and made me imagine different ways it could be.
