Apparently trying to be helpful or provide insight into programs and tools I use at SSA these days gets you accused of using AI and aggressively questioned on why you responded to a public post at all so I won’t be doing it again here. If an employer tried to use the retired number or we missed a step in the crossing process that may have been what caused the issue with your employer.

That does occasionally happen. When that happens we have a process in place where we ask you to pick the one to keep and we retire the other so it can’t be used again, and then we cross the SSNs in the system so both are connected to you and one is marked active and one is marked retired.

Also the data in question is SSA specific data, not data specific to DHS or SAVE. It was NUMIDENT data that was uploaded but that didn’t change that the NUMIDENT we use every day at work is still the original COBOL based program.

Nothing I said was speculative. I was speaking to my knowledge of how the programs are supposed to be functioning and noted that there has been nothing to indicate to users at SSA that that has changed.

Obviously I’ve used Google. But I’ve never used AI to craft something I post which is what I took her to be implying I was doing.
