Writer. Worrier. Tree whisperer. Lives on England's northwest coast. Has spent a lot of time in Zambia and Eswatini with her live-in archaeologist. Can cook for dozens over an open fire if bribed with wine. But would rather write poetry.

That's very unadventurous of you. I mean, you're rather restricting yourself. Pear for example. Very nice fruit with miserable anagram.

BREAKING: Women in Tehran are excitedly tearing off the hijab as their streets catch fire, oil rains from the sky, and their lungs burn with every breath. At last we've been liberated, they cry.

It's made me think about MASH too, how clever it was to use humour without downplaying the horror.

Such a powerful song - I've no idea how it came about that I know all the words. Joe, of Country Joe and the Fish, will be passing through those pearly gates he sang about in this recording from Woodstock. 'Whoopee, we're all gonna die.' indeed.
RIP Joe.

Life has a way of reminding us who truly holds the world together. These past months I’ve been carried more than I can say by the kindness of my mother and female friends who have walked beside me when it mattered most. Strong women rarely ask for recognition, but they deserve it all the same. πŸ’œ

May send my dad out as a research assistant again after his success with recording the return of BH to Abbot Hall, Kendal. I pushed my mum round there before she died, in a very hard to manage wheelchair, the plinth empty as if forecasting loss. Lovely to see it full of life again.

Dressing up for world book day is bullshit, even leaving the parental finance stuff aside. It's one of very few 'event' days in school calenders set aside for a solo, quiet, activity – and then it's turned into dress-up. Spectacularly misses the point. Schools should drop it from a great height.

well, today in floridly depressing news: the French helpline for female victims of male violence is facing "coordinated" attacks from men's rights activists, who keep calling up in the hope of making it harder for women to reach their services
