Nothing you can’t get away with if you’re an old white man in Germany.
Outrageous levels of malice and incompetence have no consequences in this country.

Since I started regularly driving a car in Berlin my quality of life increased immensely. I can only imagine what’d it be like if I owned a car.
(Owning a car without organising your entire life around it is ridiculously wasteful.)
The debate is about the democratic and moral legitimacy of such decisions. Everything else is a form of anarchy, which you may or may not have a taste for.
What about people without smartphones? People without smartphones can either buy a second hand android for 50 EUR or they can go fuck themselves.
The critics of LLMs seem to be too busy with cope.
Something that Germany still can't do: I setup the DigiD (Dutch government ID) app on my new phone by touching my ID card to it. Then I went to a Dutch government website and securely did my business there.
Good luck whining about Datenschutz and Android/iOS lock-in and crippling an entire country.
This should be obvious:
> The market for feeling productive is orders of magnitude larger than the market for being productive.

Reducing kids' exposure to the internet and social media is something that's very tempting for governments who want to control and surveil everything that happens online.
In reality, there is very little evidence and thinking behind both the problem and the solutions, Ulla Autenrieth explains here.
Automatic binary analysis using AI is not nearly good enough yet to be usable but it is improving and increasing the accessibility of doing this kind of analysis.

The poverty of thinking in the AI camp is probably entirely a symptom of too much ChatGPT usage.
A thorough teardown what it takes to build a startup (almost) entirely on European infrastructure. It's possible but not at all easy yet.

RSS is a hero technology that silently powers a lot of the web and will probably play a much bigger role still.

A miserable two days in Berlin thanks to the BVG being on strike.
I don’t really see a case for the cantankerous public transportation staff in Berlin to get higher wages. Bus drivers especially are terrible.
You can see it also in the recent attacks on Tooze who is for all intents and purposes an ally to them. It’s cope from a group of people who know they will never achieve anything.
The level of cope and reality denial on the left when it comes to AI reminds me a lot of the fractures that happened after the Ukraine war.
The lesson I took from that episode was that these people have nothing, know nothing and that they want it to stay that way. I don’t need that in my life.

@adamtooze.bsky.social Something for Chartbook.
It's like people critiquing LLMs after having only used MS Copilot.
In den Niederlanden wird generell sehr wenig gearbeitet. Das läuft prima wenn nicht die meiste Firmen und Institutionen wie hier in Deutschland Zombies sind.
The wishful thinking is truly on a whole next level.
What’s difficult is figuring out what behaviors the user roles should have within the economy of the site.
That’s not something the LLM can pump out in a minute.
The LLM quickly pumped out basic user CRUD and I get that this feels magical, but this was never difficult. Five lines of code and the Django Admin would do the same.
Do I get it right that AOC came to Berlin and met with the Linke and the SPD but didn’t go and see the Greens?
Truly “Mehr Mamdani wagen!“
There was very little of value over at Pinterest to begin with.
Thanks to LLMs programming languages are like shoes. If you don't like the pair of shoes you have on, you can put on a different pair.
Not making enough progress with the limited time I had, I made a radical decision and had Claude port my side project from Axum/Dioxus to Go/Svelte.
Figuring out how to bake vegan brownies and every recipe has some absurd ingredient that I've never heard of or seen used.
Where do kids get off being vegan?
@hafifprogramming.bsky.social Podcatcher’de dinlemek mümkün mü?
Germany being late at digital I get. But is that why the design of signage, paper based charts graphics and information, etc. is also bad?
Why would anybody celebrate Fasching in Berlin? Halloween should be more than enough.
It’s just an excuse for schools to offer a half day (again).
