GLAAD MEDIA AWARD WINNER: OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK Avengers Academy: Marvelβs Voices By Anthony Oliveira, Elsa Sjunneson, Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, Pablo Collar, Charles Stewart III, Alti Firmansyah, Minkyu Jung, KJ DΓaz, Ruth Redmond, Dono SΓ‘nchez-Almara, Ariana Maher, Joe Caramagna (Marvel Infinity Comics)
I am so thankful for the gift of this recognition on behalf of myself and all of the crew on Avengers Academy. We strove week after week to make art worthy of our community β to deepen and enrich the world for queer, trans, and HIV+ representation and readership, to insist we belonged in these worlds of fiction and in the world that dreams them. We wanted both to illuminate queer stories told long ago and to trailblaze new paths forward. It was not always easy, but it was always worth it. I am so proud of this work, and so honoured to have it so celebrated. Thank you. Thank you to all the impossibly gifted collaborators on this project for all your brilliance, enthusiasm, and generosity: our regular artists Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, and Pablo Collar; our colorists KJ Diaz and Ruth Redmond; our letterists Ariana Maher and Joe Caramagna; as well as our numerous guest talents β who enriched this book week after week with their gifts and perspectives. Thanks too to our editors, Lindsey Cohick, Sidney Stubbs, Wil Moss, and founding editor and Sarah Brunstad who willed this book into life. Time and again this book redefined what could happen, how it could look and read, and above all who could be in a superhero comic, and I could not be prouder. And, with great admiration and profoundest appreciation, thank you to my community, for always lifting me up. Finding all of you has been the great gift of my life. This category is full of the fellow artists who showed me there was a place for us to create and to live in this world, and I live in the enduring blessing of their work. I said it when we ended, and I will say it here again: comics will mend your heart, if you let them. When I was a scared, lonely, closeted kid, the Marvel universeβs heroes were there for me when very little else was. That is a debt I can never pay back, but one Iβve tried with great travail to pay forward. I want to believe we have afforded a little of that same refuge to those who sougβ¦
Amazed and honoured that AVENGERS ACADEMY has won the GLAAD Media Award for OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK!
This book pushed every boundary in this industry, and I am so grateful for the gift of these talented collaborators and this generous, uplifting community of readers. deadline.com/2026/03/glaa...

This is good news. The same needs to happen to those preventing trans people from accessing healthcare. In my view Wes Streeting is responsible for a number of deaths by suicide of trans people. He should be in jail also.
IT IS ENTIRELY UNSAFE FOR THIS TO BE NOWHERE, THIS CLOSE TO DEADLINE!
If Britt can't secure the full week of shelter, THERE ARE NO ORHER OPTIONS.

this is one of the big problems with the "well if it were really fascism no one would be able to criticize it." there was in fact a good deal of allowable criticism even in Nazi Germany.
The senator set to replace Kristi Noem as Homeland Security secretary was once accused of βmiddle schoolβ behavior on a trip with fellow lawmakers.
Me and @deuxdel.bsky.social created a trans lesbian superhero who is now a member of the Justice League.
Steve-O was on Joe Rogan's show trying to defend trans people and Rogan went off, he called trans people "fucking perverts" and "mass shooters" who have done the majority of school shootings.
Completely unhinged bigotry paid for by your Spotify subscriptions.

Perfect illustration of how the "podcasters are turning on Trump" narrative is bullshit. These guys still want the camps to churn out black smoke, they just don't want to see video of how the bodies get there.
I've got skin in the game too, and I'm not about to tell another survivor how she can and can't deal with this. That's the normal way to respond. Another normal way is "I am uncomfortable with this but it isn't my business." Farming puritanical outrage against a fellow survivor isn't
Well, this is appalling. I use proton mail and I guess I'm now looking for a replacement.
Btw, I appreciate the conversation! I have appreciated your columns and love your book. Much respect to you, and thank you for what you do to stand with us. If I am tense in my replies, well, the community has a lot of elevated cortosol and I hope it isn't taken personally
My issue wasnt so much with what was said, as much as what wasn't said. Focusing on the explorers without acknowledging those who are certain reinforces a frame constructed by cis anxieties designed to keep trans ppl perpetually unable to know or attest and to be taken seriously
My argument is that you cannot reason with a moral panic. Trans ppl have been explaining precisely what you just said since like 2010. It bounces off ppl's brains because cis supremacy denies epistemic legitimacy to trans knowers and to children, so that has to be the framing
Hey all, sorry to say this, as I think I have well-intentioned friends who signed, but this "declaration" means nothing. Because Steve Bannon signed it, and he wants my family dead. So if you can sign along side him? At best, you got played. He's the "humanity in control". humanstatement.org
The Massachusetts Department of Correction has been fighting me for months, trying to withhold data about its collaboration with ICE.
Yesterday, I won that fight, and obtained records showing that the state has transferred more than 2,000 people into ICE custody since 2009.
A quick thread:
Once again bumping this campaign for Sophie and her community at the Gorom refugee camp in South Sudan. What's been happening in Sudan has gotten very little global attention, and trans and queer people are even more vulnerable to violence and erasure. Please help if you can. β€οΈ

Yeah post-tattoo brain is a bit soupy, congrats on the new ink!
I did say "some." Ofc it is fine to explore and have questions. But 6 decades of research demonstrate most kids know by 3-5 yrs, cis and trans, and if they persist by puberty most will continue. Trans experience is decentered in the media convo and framed as unreal, Im simply trying to recenter it
Yes I literally said SOME. Most children in the research know and persist in replicated studies over 6 decades, cis and trans. And by the onset of puberty even transphobic researchers admit most will persist. So. Most kids know before or by puberty. Thus "potentially trans kids" is bad framing
This "potentially trans kid" still leans into the problem. Ofc kids need some help, but replicated research as far back as 1966 shows kids know their gender identity by 3-5 yrs. Listening to trans adults helps. We werent "potentially" trans, we were trans. Some know early. Some don't.
Anti-trans panic is being used to smuggle in an assumption that kids are not credible witnesses of their own internal lives. That assumption doesn't just hurt trans kids, but will be weaponized against gay kids, sexual abuse victims, and kids suffering mental health issues.
Over twenty years ago, a court ruled that forcing trans people to live βin an intermediate zone as not quite one gender or the other is no longer sustainableβ.
That decision became the foundation for the UKβs Gender Recognition Act.

THE BIGGER PICTURE BEN APPEL Genspect NOVEMBER 4-5, 2023 DENVER, USA Ben Appel is a writer living in New York. His memoir, "Cis White Gay: The Making of a Gender Heretic," with Bombardier Books, is forthcoming. His work has appeared in Newsweek, Spiked, Daily Mail, Washington Examiner, Queer Majority, and UnHerd. Follow him on X @benappel.
From a Genspect article... We all agree that autogynephilia is a paraphilia that can cause dreadful harm to women. How to tackle this issue is where the conflict lies. Some people believe that all AGP men should never be allowed to speak; nor should they be allowed to show their face in public; indeed, according to many, there is no space where AGP men should ever be allowed to exist. Put simply, some people believe that they should either hide themselves for ever more or they should die.
Ben has done quite a bit of work with Genspect, and he was a panelist at their conference in Denver in 2023.
Thatβs this conferenceπthat afterwards the Genspect board had to write an article wherein they stated that their members wanting to kill trans people was going too far.
A screenshot of an article header from The Atlantic's "Ideas" section. The title reads "IN DEFENSE OF EFFEMINATE GAY BOYS" in large, serif capital letters. Below it, a subheader in a smaller font says, "If anyone had suggested that I might really be a girl, I donβt know how I would have responded." The byline at the bottom identifies the author as Ben Appel.
Babe, wake up. The Atlantic is doing the "they're transing the gays" conspiracy theory.
