What failed form factors do you have in mind? The e-ink community is doing pretty ok as far as I can tell
E-ink is good at a few things and bad at the rest. You need to have a solid, defined use-case, maybe theres something about your iPad you dislike that e-ink could solve. But if you're fine with what you have now, don't switch, unless you can afford it and don't mind two devices in your life.
