This is easy for me - I didn't read much new stuff last year - but The Martian Contingency was outstanding.

My leatherbound Eye of the World came today.

Beautiful piece of work. Worth the money imo

I appreciate Rusev out here proudly repping the balding/greying beard population.

I constantly confuse the Discord & Obsidian icons. It makes no sense, they're nothing alike

Same story. Guys 2 years older than I was got 6 figure job offers to leave school after year 3, and I spent 2 years getting screamed at in a call center before landing a programmer job for 27k/year

"Illegal wars are bad" is such a low bar to clear, it's fucking pathetic how many people are desperate to dig under it

Leadership means doing hard things because they are right and/or necessary.
Nodding sagely that it's ok to murder a bunch of innocent people in an unnecessary war is neither.

Just cowering until it's safe to stand up to the bully

Buncha people in the world who make it really clear that they'll only ever do anything if it presents 0 (zero) risk to themselves or their interests.
Currently well represented by Carney and his trained seals clapping at his enabling the latest international murder spree

The Leafs must feel great about having Auston Matthews on their team and not Mitch Marner, given how the last week has gone.

My favourite use for copilot: generating test data for the silly practice scripts I'm writing to prep for a coding interview tomorrow

Love the heat pump going out during the second cold snap of the month.

The backup heat options are not cutting it

Rough ones. Always hate losing to πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ in hockey, twice in the same Olympics, in OT, just awful

If Apple can adapt the Stormlight Archive, they can spend much less to adapt these, and not have a pushy author who thinks he's smarter than everyone else trying to run the show

I've since finished Dragonquest & The White Dragon, the next two in the series/the remainder of the Omnibus edition I have.
Nothing really new to say - I love these books, they're very fun, I want a TV show and don't care how much it costs them to make.

Curling is my favourite Olympic sport. It's mostly a chill watch, but can still deliver some drama & excitement. You can understand the state of the game at a glance, and there's enough strategy that good commentators can reveal the depth of what's happening in a way you grasp quickly.

Three things:
1. That level of freedom was the aberration. Prior to that, kids weren't running free - they were home doing chores, and usually had a full time parent at home to supervise
2. We remember the shenanigans we got up to
3. People don't tolerate unsupervised kids in public anymore

The best case scenario of this is Neil Druckmann and TLOU, but imo that only worked because they did a direct translation of a story that was already TV shaped.
The likely outcome is he gets fired because he has no chill and can't compromise, or s1 is wildly expensive, bad, and the adaptation stops

Illegal, Immoral and Ineffective could be a campaign slogan for that lot

No.

Robin and Marshall cannot date.

It's unacceptable behaviour.
