Unlocking Avian Secrets: How Tiny Biologgers Are Revealing the Hidden Communication of Carrion Crows - Earth Species Project Lightweight biologgers and ESP's machine learning tools reveal the hidden vocal world of wild carrion crows, capturing over 127,000 calls from quiet murmurs to long-distance signals.

๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ› New paper in Animal Cognition covering our carrion crow project with partners at @Univeristy of Leon.

52 mini-biologgers were deployed on wild carrion crows in Spain โ€” capturing 127K+ vocalizations.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EUโ€™s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

The Accuracy Cost of Weakness: A Theoretical Analysis of Fixed-Segment Weak Labeling for Events in Time This paper analyzes the accuracy and cost of fixed-length segment weak labeling for events in time, comparing it to an oracle method and providing justification for adaptive weak labeling strategies.

Our paper, โ€œThe Accuracy Cost of Weakness: A Theoretical Analysis of Fixed-Segment Weak Labeling for Events in Timeโ€, is now out in TMLR!

It explores tradeoffs in weak labeling for sound events and gives a theoretical basis for adaptive approaches.

Very exited about this! To start with we are looking to find and label some of their vocalizations to build a vocabulary, and to link them to video events.

Many very interesting audio-visual modelling challenges! I would like to build an audio-visual vocabulary to help understand their behaviour.

Auklab Audio Research News and updates about the continuous acoustic monitoring at the Auk Lab

Small webpage for an ongoing #bioacoustic monitoring project I am part of at Stora Karlsรถ: auklab-audio.github.io

Adding #audio will hopefully let us learn more about the life of the Guillemots. What are they saying?

Lesson learned: designing a recording setup is a challenge and lots of fun! ๐Ÿ”Š

Noise pollution isnโ€™t just an inconvenience! ๐Ÿ”‰๐Ÿฌ
it can disturb entire marine ecosystems.

Understanding how noise disturbance affects wildlife populations requires powerful models, lots of data and a dedicated team.

BioacousTalks: Small Bird, Big Data, Deep Learnings with Nilo Recalde YouTube video by K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics

Just remembered that Nilo Recalde had an excellent talk about annotation/validation of thousands of audio clips at BioacousTalks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0fr..., maybe his software "pykanto" is worth looking at: nilomr.github.io#software. Depends on how much programming you are willing to do!

Yeah, I agree that it is not really built for large annotation projects in that sense. If you find what you are looking for, please write what you find in this thread! I'm also curious ๐Ÿ˜Š
