Michelangelo, the renaissance artist, sculptor, painter and poet, who gave the world David, Pietas, the Sistine Chapel and the soaring dome of St Peters Basilica was born #OTD.
He wrote intense love letters and sonnets to men, notably Tommaso de' Cavalieri.

Pier Paulo Pasolini, a queer Italian writer, director, poet, philosopher (the list is almost endless) was born #OTD.
He's known for films Salo and Teorama. He also wrote a poem to Pope Pius XII which went:

#OTD journalist Jill Johnson writes an article in The Village Voice titled: Lois Lane is a Lesbian.
Lois was used as a metaphor for Jill's experiences coming out, as a journalist and exploring themes like visibility.

#OTD Der Eigene's, likely the 1st such gay magazine's, 1st issue hit the shelves. Exploring masculine culture and love between men, it ran until 1931.

Go for 🥇!
Australian diver Matthew Mitcham, born #OTD, made a huge splash in the best possible way at the 2008 Summer Olympic games.
He was the only openly gay man to win gold in the Beijing games and set a record for the highest scoring dive in Olympic history.
Today has been a 'signing-off all emails with "Regards"' kind of day.
The theme for my leaf green play through? Pokémon I haven't used before.
About to start a new Pokémon adventure and, in my 30 years of playing, I've never picked Charmander as my starter for Kanto.
I love me my leafy and bubbly boys.

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg is published. Feinberg said "like my own life, this novel defies easy classification" and has described it as "a lesbian novel and a trans novel".
A heavy but important read for the community, the novel ends hopefully.
I'd also argue that, actually, queer folk are way better at understanding a sense of self than hetero folk because by and large straight people don't actually have to go through much introspection.

Feb 28 (1977)
Artist Kehinde Wiley is born #OTD.
Kehinde draws on the visual language of old European Masters. He says he does "heroic portraits which address image and status...in contemporary culture."

Playwright Christopher (Kit) Marlowe was christened today at St George the Martyr church in Canterbury.
Marlowe was one of the prominent literary voices of the Elizabethan era, and his works, including Edward II and Hero & Leander explored queer themes.
