Graphic reading: Christine Goodwin Vs The UK, the historically pivotal case you need to understand to fight for Trans+ rights with a picture of the European Court of Human rights, a room with a EU flag carpet and a semi-circle bench, with blue chairs
20 years ago, a landmark decision at the European Court of Human Rights changed the lives of Trans+ people in the UK and Europe.
It was a pivotal moment in Trans+ history βΒ but now its significance is being erased.
Tomorrow, 10K readers will understand why ππ§΅

If you're looking to understand if this is good news or bad news - there is no easy answer: This judgement is both.
It establishes an important legal principle that in most public life - segregation is not lawful.
But in the workplace, it says something very different π

New data shows surge in trans kidsβ suicides following healthcare rollbacks | Good Law Project
A freedom of information request by Good Law Project has found that deaths by suicide of trans young people under 18 surged following the withdrawal of gender-affirming healthcare
One of the wickedest things Wes Streeting has ever done is push politically convenient falsehoods about suicide rates amongst young trans people. We have new data from the National Child Mortality Database that exposes the truth he tried to cover up.

New data shows surge in trans kidsβ suicides following healthcare rollbacks | Good Law Project
A freedom of information request by Good Law Project has found that deaths by suicide of trans young people under 18 surged following the withdrawal of gender-affirming healthcare
The spread of these numbers is vastly significant.
Appleby's report was held up by Wes Streeting at the despatch box to defend the safety of his ban on puberty blockers.
This spike in suicides following Tavistock's shuttering raises huge questions for Streeting.

The new data out today shows there was a fourfold increase, from 5 in 2019-20, 4 in 2020-21:
To 22 in 2021-22, the year Tavistock was shuttered
We only have this data thanks to a series of FOIs, and press requests - not because officials have taken action.

One in six children who died by suicide were LGBTQ+, new data shows
Amid heated public debate about whether trans children are dying by suicide, campaigners say we need to "take the politics out of policymaking"
What we argued in 2024 was the very point made by the whistleblowers: these numbers were seemingly obfuscated, making it more difficult to report on this issue.
Now, two years on, thanks to vast research, we are closer to understanding the true picture.

I've always been clear about the huge irony in a government report calling the media like @wearequeeraf.com irresponsible for reporting on trans suicides, in case it harms young people's wellbeing.
Politicians, healthcare systems and media perpetuating hate, are the driving forces π§΅

Important new data uncovered by @ludovicparsons.bsky.social & @wearequeeraf.com
107 of 647 children who died by suicide in England were LGBTQ+ in 2019-2025. 46 of those were trans - this is disproportionate

βWhat was supposed to be narrowly focused on the definition of a woman, in the eyes of the Equality Act, has become a tool for anti-Trans+ campaigners to push a hateful narrative that seeks to force Trans+ people out of societyβ - @jamiewareham.co.uk

Screenshot of newsletter text that reads: Picking up our Audio Production Award this week on behalf of the QueerAF podcast producers, speaking to the audio industry audience, I reflected on how we sometimes talk about hard-to-reach communities in the media.
But 450 Trans+ people applied for the 20 opportunities we offered for the first ever Trans+ History Week. The queer and Trans+ community is bursting with untapped talent, and if there were more of us in the room, the way we're represented in the media would be vastly different.
At a time when so many headlines pit marginalised communities against each other, I'm incredibly proud QueerAF and Trans+ History Week have been recognised for a show that mentored Trans+ creatives and bought them equipment to create beautiful, nuanced and inspiring documentaries on the millennia-old history of gender diversity to shut down the pernicious lie that being Transgender is a modern 'trend'.
