10/ Seven northern elephant seal pups at Año Nuevo State Park tested positive for H5N1, with 30 more presumed dead. This is the first time H5N1 has been detected in marine mammals in California. Human risk is low, but avoid contact with wildlife and observe from a distance.
9/ The Shasta County measles outbreak is ongoing. There have been 9 local measles cases and 21 statewide so far in 2026. This is the first outbreak we've seen in six years. The takeaway is unchanged: make sure you (and your kids) are up to date on MMR—outbreaks thrive in pockets of low immunity.
3/ To understand why cuts carry "irreparable harm” let’s look at what these programs actually do HIV control relies on two main pathways:

Cuts threaten both.
2/ Federal cuts are targeting California HIV programs. In early February, $600 million in CDC grants for HIV prevention, care, and surveillance were rescinded, which mostly hit Democrat-led states like CA, CO, IL, MN. California sued and a federal judge temporarily halted the cuts.
