And that's fine! And it's important, just like so many other jobs are! Important in the sense that it solves a problem, but like, I'm not pretending that my work is changing the world. The developers who change the world for the better have always done it in the open source sector, not for profit.

I am a senior software engineer, when people ask me what I do, I don't vomit out my job title, I say "I am a computer programmer" because that's what makes sense to a normal person. I love my work, it's fulfilling and often fun, but 99% of tech work impacts a small group of employees at a business.
