Since we published this @timep.bsky.social explainer on how Lebanon got pulled into the war on Monday, the death toll has risen to 72 people, 437 have been injured, and the number of those officially displaced (and registered with the state) is now 83,847.

“For the past 12 years, I’ve come to see institutions as a model for organizing. There are 10 years of practice, but also a generational aspect as new journalists come in,” Lina Attalah reflects on building institutions that uphold the values of the Arab Uprisings.

"Little has changed." Dignity is the catalyst behind recent protests in Morocco. "While we might think that what we see on the surface of Morocco’s Gen Z movement is new, beneath it, there’s something ubiquitous and extremely timeless", says Samia Errazzouki on the 2025 Gen Z-led protests.

Grassroots organizing isn't a temporary substitute for political parties. Increasingly, it's becoming a main way of political life through which the youth mobilizes, reflecting a shift in people's imagination to demand dignity, participation, and accountability, notes @hamidmkk.bsky.social.

"Our goal was not to remove one man, but dignity and freedom from the culture of fear. It was, and still is, about our right as Syrians to decide on the future we want. Continuing with these values is what the revolution means today," says @thesyriacampaign.org's Razan Rashidi.

“In order to understand police brutality in Egypt and engage as a journalist, one has to go to Syria.” Lina Attallah talks about the importance of traveling across the region and drawing lessons from across borders. “In a way, it feels personal, all these movements that were happening.”

“I remember the squares filling with people and wondering when it would be our turn,” @hamidmkk.bsky.social says about watching the Arab Uprisings from Sudan, which witnessed various protests. “By the time we reached 2018, we weren’t starting from zero. We were building from those lessons.”

“What drives me on a daily basis is when you work with families and impacted people. I was personally inspired by the mothers in Lebanon, Egypt, and Algeria. Those examples helped us work with the families of disappeared in Syria,” says @thesyriacampaign.org's Executive Director Razan Rashidi.
