We’re asking you to join us in honouring Shawn’s memory and helping ensure that no one has to lose a loved one to cancer again. All funds raised will support research into the treatment and prevention of colorectal cancer.
Shawn is deeply missed by his family, Otafest staff, volunteers, and friends across the anime community and beyond.
Shawn was a true gem in the Alberta Anime community. A devoted volunteer, former Otafest President, and a huge part of growing our festival into what it is today. He was known for his patience, kindness, quick wit, iconic “punishment game” looks 🎭, and of course, the best hugs ever 💗
We at Otafest, Calgary’s Japanese Animation & Pop-Culture Festival, are partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society to raise funds in memory of our dear friend, Shawn Hansen.

The name of the album is of a flower that blooms in the night and scatters in the morning, evoking the floral meanings of “happiness” and “eternal love”.
She also held her 25th anniversary concert “Lia SUPER LIVE 2025” on November 23rd at the Toyosu Pit concert venue in Tokyo.
as well as the insert theme song “Aozora”.
Celebrating her 25th anniversary as an artist in 2025, she released her full-length original album “SAGARIBANA” on November 19, 2025. It is Lia’s first original new work in 17 years.
Lia is a Japanese singer and solo artist.
While Lia was living in America and studying vocal performance at Berkeley University College of Music, she had the opportunity to be the vocalist for the game, anime and movie AIR, and recorded the hit Opening song “Tori no Uta”,
