right? And the three "modes" make SO much sense and you could use them in lots of different arrangements depending your furniture. so smart.
And have to share two @edutopia.org posts in a row because this one from @mrrablin.bsky.social is SO cool! I have never seen this seating-arrangement strategy before.

As always, here's @marcusluther.bsky.social with a truly excellent piece on @edutopia.org! In education, we talk about the time about teachers modeling learning and behavioral habits for kids. Marcus applies that same idea here to our AI use.

I have so many thoughts but my brain is not braining at this moment but let's drink tea and catch up soon!!!
I'm so happy Christian Hubicki is back on my screen, every moment is iconic #survivor50
a Pen of Democracy is apparently a black felt-tip pen you use to vote yes to the school budget!
checking in to vote
volunteer: "here is your ballot. and here is your Pen of Democracy!!"
is this from the same set as "we is brothers"?
Exciting news - the audiobook version is coming out in May! I will update when it's available!
Reading a book on coming to terms with grief about your body and the concept of disability is only mentioned three times in the entire book. Feels like such a missed opportunity. Some really useful stuff in the book but I keep thinking, yes/and disability identity would be helpful here!
Vermonters in the Burlington area: for the entire month of March @citymarketcoop.bsky.social has graciously made us a 50% Rally for Change partner. That means when customers round up their totals for donation, we'll get 50% of the total for March! www.citymarket.coop/community/ra...

New β I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driverβs licenses overnight, whatβs itβs like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the lawβs chaotic and cruel rollout:
You have ~24 hours to get your entries in to win these mittens!
If the work is meaningless, if it's not relevant, if it feels unconnected to the real problems in their world...truly, why should they care? (I know not all those problems are in the realm of teacher decision-making. We need a full system change baby!)
In my experience, "unmotivated" is so so rarely the case.
And! When it is! Kids are so right to be unmotivated, so much of the time.
We are way too quick to ascribe students with a "lack of motivation." It takes much less vulnerability to say "I don't wanna" than it does to say "I don't actually understand this" or "I don't know how to do this" or "I am just trying to make it through the day."
still one of the greatest love poems ever written
I'm looking for advice for a friend writing a tenure statement, please. What are best practices for addressing disruptions to research from Covid, attacks on higher education, etc?
a truly terrible hack because I would really rather procrastinate my other work by writing!!
the most unfortunate writing-routine tip I've discovered for my own ADHD: get the rest of your to-do list done first π« It's hard to tune out unfinished tasks so I've found that writing at the end of the day or on Fridays after my inbox is cleared are the most productive.
Five years ago, my editor gave me a list of essential voices in education to follow online.
Since then, SO many new ones have shaped my perspective and challenged my thinking.
Now, we're crowdsourcing an updated version to share:
Who do YOU consider a must-follow voice in education? π

Columbia student detained today is a day-in-the-life influencer with 100K followers. Her stories right now go from her studying for a Genetics exam in a nicely edited "ten hour study with me at Columbia" video, to a photo of her knees with the caption "dhs illegally arrested me please help"
Book cover: What Teachers Need: How the Education Community Can Promote Sustainable Well-Being and Help Heal the Profession. Edited by Amanda Moreno and Jeanette Banashak. Erikson Institute.
This new book is out tomorrow and I have a chapter in it! It's on unconditional positive regard as an antidote to moral injury. Big idea: when we humanize our students, we humanize ourselves. Lots of great stuff throughout the whole book.

Retrieval practice isn't something I knew much about until recent years and I'm inspired to integrate it more into my courses...lots of great stuff in the jam.
If you miss the live chats on Edutwitter back in the day, might I suggest checking out Edutopia Jam Sessions? It has such a similar vibe- lots of resource-sharing, teachers getting to ask questions and receiving quick responses from other teachers, etc. www.edutopia.org/ask-and-answ...
