I made my favorite chewy sugar cookies which took up a good amount of time and I feel productive and not like I want to throw everything away

Color photograph. A long haired tan and black tabby kitten with cerulean eyes is perched atop a tan colored platform on a cat tree. She looks absolutely peaceful and has her face stretched a bit towards the camera as if to get closer. The photo has a very soft focus.

Every woman who has been sexually assaulted understands the impulse to just walk away because justice is a pipe dream and you don’t want to put yourself through a second, emotional assault when you tell your story.

potato kugel Basically a massive hash brown profoundly crispy edges that goes well with with everything from eggs to brisket.

I'm making this for dinner and I'm very sad that I'm out of sour cream but it's delicious on it's own anyway

sort of related: as a disabled person I've heard the extremely ableist "you'd die in the natural world" comments

but also I've watched parent birds put their all into raising baby birds with missing limbs and un-survivable disabilities. Parental care can be so much stronger than these losers know

This ties into the nature of our belief structures and threat responses. People do not learn well and encounter new information well when being labeled as a "bad" identity (like "bad parent"). This is extremely well known. The OP is doing clear, good, informed scicomm.

You lovely BlueSky lot, eldest has spent the day HUGELY enjoying taking pictures at the British Museum and wants to start editing them on a computer/trying out a proper camera. Any advice for getting started? He’s 12, but very good at computers and etc & has immense focus when interested in things.

Chopping up a pineapple through the SDT framework:
Competence: I have the knife skills and know how, the self-efficacy
Autonomy: whatever the end result is, it will be delicious and mine so it's fine
Relatedness: now I'm telling you about the delicious, chopped up pineapple

but if you're in admin at an institution, try to see your staff as people who make knowledge as well as answer emails.

As usual the daily news brief at my institution didn’t mention my piece :)

It’s not because I’m too radical, it’s because staff aren’t visible.

There is also a huge element of a more "deviant" life style, talking about boundaries, and discussing consent. But, we can stay safely mainstream with the "be a Dain or a Xaden"

I saw a thing on social media, a "men's coach", who was like, you can be a Dain or a Xaden. You can decide what she can handle, or you can walk beside her through it.

And I think that's a great description of why many women love romantic fantasy.

Me: This isn't a recreation. This is the actual chalkboard which got sprayed with epoxy to fix it forever and then they cut that piece of chalkboard out for display here.
Them: What are those names on the side?
Me: Oh, that's a little slice of radiation safety history.

A news post said "the medicial examiner is on the scene" and it *always* makes me think about the day my mom died in her home. There was a Coroner's van out front and a dude in a pickup drove by and shouted THAT'S THE CORONER'S VAN.

Yep. Both of those mean death.
