adventure games from the 80s were intentionally designed to be tricky, mean and occasionally counterintuitive so that you could get stuck for long periods of time. this was called “value for your dollar”
I was stuck on a puzzle in Space Quest 1 for months as a kid. The only way I finally managed to get unstuck was randomly overhearing two employees talking about that exact puzzle at Radio Shack one day.

Saving this for my Politics and Video Games course next semester. And maybe my Media, Culture, and Politics course this semester.
Now, you might ask yourself why a well-published researcher and award-winning teacher with 18 years at the university is being paid the minimum, and the answer is: everything sucks.
For years, I thought I was being paid the university's minimum salary for my rank, but it turns out I was being paid slightly BELOW the minimum. They apparently owe me like $2,000 of backpay for the past five years. 🤣
