I am this old. I have books about technology that are older than most people currently on this platform. Found this in my bookshelf when I was cleaning it out. So, when I say I have always been an early adopter, here's the proof point. My distaste for GenAI is not about being afraid of technology.

Here's a litmus test: If you are stating publicly that you will continue an action until your target is at a place of "total surrender" you are, in fact, fighting a war. Total surrender is the result of military action. It's not a diplomatic action. Total surrender = no guaranteed rights or terms.

No, Claude is not anxious.

Anxiety requires two components:

1. Awareness of the possibility of annihilation of self.
2. An autonomic nervous system.

Mimicry of the words of an anxious person is not being anxious.

A dog can be anxious. Your plagiarism machine cannot.

I have to convert 13 of our websites from a custom theme to Divi5 (two of them ecomm) and if anyone ever romanticizes "being your own boss" and "entrepreneurship" just remember it's not all fun and chic purses.

My side gig is as a nonfiction publisher and I could really just cry. I started publishing because I love how humans are driven to storytelling as an act of teaching. And I hated the Dummies and Idiots books. It's a hard business.

I still know most of the dos commands because my first pc didn't have a mouse. I've had my own name on Gmail from when it was invented. I hand-coded a 280 page website about Emily Dickinson as a grad student because wysiwyg didn't exist. GenAI gives me the chills. I detest it.

I know from being a publisher that some people just have an innate skill in being very chaffed by typos - and that extends to bathroom stalls. Whoever you are, irritated stranger, I hope you have found professional satisfaction in your abilities. #bathroomgraffiti #copyediting #eav

I was actually thinking about this yesterday as I was doing some reorg of my socials. I keep trying to post about things I love and I keep getting swept back into the political vortex. I'm a bystander to both culture and politics, but it feels wrong to do anything other than regime critiques.

FIFA has officially issued President Trump a yellow card. If he assassinates another world leader, it’ll become an automatic red card and he won’t be eligible for another FIFA Peace Prize for 4 years.

I'm subscribing simply because I want you to have the large bag of chips.
Also, I'm thinking of leaving Substack and what system are you using for monetization?

A large Anatolian mix dog named Lucia rests her head on a stack of white pillows. The pillows are in a bed with a wood frame made of fluted trim. Lucia is carefully tucked under a fluffy white duvet. In the soft glow of a Chinese pottery lamp, the dark brown eyes of the dog softly gaze at an unseen person. The dog has a creamy white body, large floppy brown ears, and a black speckled snout. She is content which shows in her relaxed posture laying on her side.
She is tired from barking at squirrels and at a pair of mating barn owls that have taken turns swooping at her from a giant oak tree all day.

I wish everyone could be blessed with a dog who wants only to lovingly watch you while you watch TV.
Lucia found us as a starved puppy while we were on vacation in Spain. She's a complicated and difficult dog in some ways, but her love is as big as she is.

I'm a member of a women's executive group and every year at our conference I stand up during the asks session and beg women to write about what they know - even if they go to a different publisher. It's not just science - even high powered experts seem reluctant to own their knowledge outloud. Sigh.

I've never understood that kind of take on Star Trek. Every iteration of Star Trek is steeped in science and rich with crew who are scientists. And then there's like ONE officer representing security.
Star Trek is about expansion and the military is about consolidation.

I'm going through 20 years of Evernote ephemera as a digital version of Swedish death cleaning.
Am I ever going to do that cardio HIIT workout I probably clipped while sitting on an airplane in 2015?
No. No, I am not.

I'd publish you in a heartbeat, but I'm a small indie US publisher. Publishing is in a pretty sorry state at present.
