Turn whatever leftovers into little hand pies/hot pockets! or let a toddler chuck a bunch of slightly overripe fruit on top and bake it and call it a tart

this obscenely large truck is parked behind me on the street. It’s so tall that my SUV backup cam can’t see the hood from a normal parking distance.

this is the city! why would you possibly need this?

what I planned to do this afternoon:
- a two-hour focused block to draft this chapter opening

what I actually did:
- read the entire bibliography of a 2018 dissertation
- downloaded at least two books & four articles (not for my current book but for my hypothetical next book project)

and it’s so frustrating when you know if you spent all day doing other stuff you probably couldn’t have written those 500 words

if you're looking to work off anger about the political situation, may i recommend to you modernist art in all its forms: music, literature, visual art, whatever.

and you'll realize that people 100 years ago were grappling with the same crap we're dealing with now.

My 9-year-old nephew came over for the Superbowl. I’d made some wings. He took one bite and dropped it, exclaiming “did you know this wing had BONES??”

(he did not eat any more wings)

yeah major national newspaper maybe isn’t the best venue for experimental writing

18.02.2026 17:40 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

but I do agree that “reported fiction” is a pretty useless phrase!

idk I feel like the second person here was an immediate flag that this wasn’t Reporting

this thought also brought to you by another round of me reading "nonfiction" writing course descriptions and shouting IS THIS ACTUALLY JUST FOR MEMOIR, JUST SAY MEMOIR THEN at my computer

honestly I feel like the nonfiction/fiction dichotomy should not be as dominant as it is. we need more ways of describing writing and its relationship to the writer and to the world and to time.

I used iOS Notes app scanner last time I was at archives but it sucked on my kind of old iPhone and I can’t access half of the scans on my much newer but not updated MacBook

RIP Evernote, whose demise into expensive bloatware has made Scannable unusable for me

So far today another person in the jury pool tried to bring a box of darts and needle nose pliers through security (they said absolutely not)

Turns out the real civic duty is being performed by my husband, who has an actual salary job (unlike me) and who has to do two parents’ worth of kid schlepping on a day when our eldest has no school!

today’s my first jury service! It was originally for next week but I requested a partial excuse Tueaday so the feds said okay then come in an earlier, more inconvenient Tuesday instead, no take-backsies. So here I am downtown in ill-fitting pants cosplaying business casual.

Millions of people dying was very bad, yes of course. And also COVID at one time appeared like it might have created an opportunity to make things different, maybe better…..and then instead we doubled down on Status Quo Society, except with more death. That was some bad whiplash.
