Perry: This St. Patrickโ€™s Day, donโ€™t forget Irish musicโ€™s anti-fascist roots Dropkick Murphys, the iconic Irish American punk band, are headlining a free block party March 6 near where Alex Pretti was killed by immigration agents, contributing columnist David M. Perry writes.

NEW โ€œWeโ€™re celebrating a tradition that is at its core about resisting occupation and maintaining community in the face of horrors. You canโ€™t keep politics out of Irish music. No one should try, for two reasons. First, itโ€™s ahistorical. Second, Minnesotans are ready for a big anti-fascist party.โ€

Predicting a return to reading books. It will be on the frontier of resisting subjection.

In these containers are arugula, radishes, lettuce, and sugar snap peas, so far. More to come soon, I hear!

damn, if the Childcrusher 5000 GTX pickup truck owners canโ€™t afford gas, how are they going to be able to tote their massive loads of a single loaf of bread and a canned Starbucks latte

Well, gas is expensive, and food is expensive, and weโ€™re doing a war nobody wants, but at least there are no jobs

You guys ever think about how, if Al Gore had been president on 9/11, we might be energy independent now? I wish I didnโ€™t.

Itโ€™s probably too late for this.

But it would be beyond meaningful to see my dad recognized at the โ€œIn Memoriamโ€ part of the Oscars.

He died in June.
He worked for decades in the movie business, marketing movies. Big movies. Like Star Wars.

I canโ€™t express how much it would have meant to him.

no wonder trump likes the old system. one of his most consistent, deeply held convictions is that workers should not be paid.

gotta love the 4D chess of this administration removing the $7500 subsidy for EVs (and doing away with various regulations meant to push us away from ICE cars) and then catastrophically raising the price of gas lmao

I think Hegseth is the most embarrassing person in any leadership position anywhere in the world, a 13-year-old boy pretending to be a man. On 60 Minutes:

โ€œThe only ones that need to be worried right now are Iranians who think they're going to live.โ€

I love watching people use LLMs in public. Theyโ€™ll reply to a breaking news article and say โ€œ@grok is this true?โ€ Babe where do you think itโ€™s about to pull its answer from

nyt website currently resembles one of those mock covers people made before 2016 election: economy floundering, war in the middle east, scandal-plagued cabinet sec, brazen corruption....

it's insane that my country's current position is that, if we don't like the leader of a sovereign nation, not only do we get to kill them we get to pick their successor

Same! There used to be a Facebook group called Irish Jews with the tagline, โ€œThe few, the proud, the best-looking on campus.โ€

The American political class is utterly delusional, adrift in a dream of normality, unable to process the actual reality of events on the ground, where the US just launched a completely unprovoked war against a massive country, murdered its leadership, and demanded its conversion to a vassal state.

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

The U.S. made this class of stunningly stupid, pudding-soft MAGA parasites who have managed to move through life without ever encountering genuinely meaningful pushback. This led them to starting this wildly dangerous war in Iran - and looks like their reality distortion field is no longer working.

This Used to Be the Future Longtime Thieves in the Temple blogger Alec Mento returns with a dozen new essays excoriating the venality of political and corporate โ€œleadersโ€ and...

You can only get my new book, *This Used to Be the Future*, at my storefront, Blunt Instruments (linked below). You may find the bookโ€™s final essay, โ€œLove is the Answer One More Time,โ€ unexpectedly personal, especially after reading the other 11 more analytical essays. I hope so, anyway.

8 Badass Librarians We Need to Celebrate This International Womenโ€™s Day In the late Victorian era, Melvil Dewey, inventor of the Dewey Decimal system (and a womanizer) argued that women make excellent librarians because we have โ€œa clear head, strong handโ€ฆ and great heaโ€ฆ

Stunned to be included on this list of badasses ๐Ÿ˜ณ High praise. Incredible cohort. Honored!

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating; AIPAC funds people who agree with it. it's not bribing them.

I get that it may seem like an academic distinction, but it's pretty important for a bunch of reasons. 1
