When we talk about Red states, there is this perception that they are already a lost cause. People spend less money, pay less attention to the candidates and don’t respect the pain and suffering of the people in those states.

So I think we should change the narrative. These aren’t Red states, there’s no such thing. There’s no state without at least one Democratic stronghold.

But Ohio! Is by far one of THE most gerrymandered states in the country But Utah! Have you seen Salt Lake City? But Tennessee! Wait till I tell you about Memphis and Nashville.

Get the point? All of these states and so many more have something in common, they’re mostly gerrymandered to hell at state and federal level, and there’s so much voter suppression.

Introducing “Gray States” the concept that you can’t know how a state would actually vote if the voter suppression keeps so many people from voting. No state is worth writing off and every single state deserves to find out what their color truly is

when you're building up something simple into something complex, you get outcomes that are much more reliable than just crossing your fingers

once the vertical slice works, you can start pressure testing it and your mental model a little by adding features. again, scoped

to make that vertical slice, I describe the design patterns I think will be correct for this project, and for its long term maintenance and extensibility

whatever practices you wanted 10 years ago for humans, you want them again for robots. separated concerns, clean abstraction, FRP UI patterns

games industry really believes in vertical slices because they have so many interacting layers they need to validate at once

I LOVE this pattern. so once the prototype validates the worst risks, I want a vertical slice that lets me validate the architectural sketch of the product I'm imagining

I don't know how many real professional developers who are also good at LLMs are trying to one-shot entire meaningful features or products

for me, if I'm in a zero-to-one mode, I'm starting with a detailed spec for a prototype to validate things like "can I interact with service X the way I hope?"

anyway we could do something about this, the loudest people I know going "we need to make tech beneficial to actual people again" are all technologists, but it's easier to be doomers in people's mentions

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.

I’ve been asked if I would support Sen. Mullin as Noem’s replacement.

The answer is a resounding NO. The rot in DHS is deep, much deeper than any individual.

It’s a question of policy not personnel. The Senate should not consider any DHS Secretary nominee until DHS and ICE are reined in.

(per my previous repost, that myth is very much tied to racial polarization and the “white conservatives are the normative Americans” belief implicitly held by a lot of actors and observers in the political process)
