When we talk about Red states, there is this perception that they are already a lost cause. People spend less money, pay less attention to the candidates and donβt respect the pain and suffering of the people in those states.
So I think we should change the narrative. These arenβt Red states, thereβs no such thing. Thereβs no state without at least one Democratic stronghold.
But Ohio! Is by far one of THE most gerrymandered states in the country But Utah! Have you seen Salt Lake City? But Tennessee! Wait till I tell you about Memphis and Nashville.
Get the point? All of these states and so many more have something in common, theyβre mostly gerrymandered to hell at state and federal level, and thereβs so much voter suppression.
Introducing βGray Statesβ the concept that you canβt know how a state would actually vote if the voter suppression keeps so many people from voting. No state is worth writing off and every single state deserves to find out what their color truly is

UWAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO just figured out and unfucked something at work I have been struggling with / experiencing Dread concerning for most of the past two weeks if not longer, let's fucking goooooooooooo
when you're building up something simple into something complex, you get outcomes that are much more reliable than just crossing your fingers
you also get knowledge of what has been built because you're a more deliberate author of the evolution
I love working this way, and agents help so much
and the recurring theme here is scoping:
I'm deliberately choosing narrow scope so that the problem remains small enough for me to reason about and develop opinions.
once the vertical slice works, you can start pressure testing it and your mental model a little by adding features. again, scoped
to make that vertical slice, I describe the design patterns I think will be correct for this project, and for its long term maintenance and extensibility
whatever practices you wanted 10 years ago for humans, you want them again for robots. separated concerns, clean abstraction, FRP UI patterns
games industry really believes in vertical slices because they have so many interacting layers they need to validate at once
I LOVE this pattern. so once the prototype validates the worst risks, I want a vertical slice that lets me validate the architectural sketch of the product I'm imagining
I don't know how many real professional developers who are also good at LLMs are trying to one-shot entire meaningful features or products
for me, if I'm in a zero-to-one mode, I'm starting with a detailed spec for a prototype to validate things like "can I interact with service X the way I hope?"
a thing that happens constantly:
- assertion of how LLM codegen works, worse than strawman
- attacking this facile image of how LLM codegen works
and the thing is:
LLM in a software development workflow manifests in many, many individual styles
including styles that look familiar and rigorous
anyway we could do something about this, the loudest people I know going "we need to make tech beneficial to actual people again" are all technologists, but it's easier to be doomers in people's mentions
really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.
oh my god, thread, this is delightful:
like, mullin is not going to be any better at this job than noem was, he will just be terrible at it in new and novel ways, but he's already going to have a mountain of her shit to clean up and miller screaming at him to detain and deport more brown people from day one, and he won't like it
one thing that's going to be a serious problem for mullin is answering questions about what he'll do about the widespread corruption noem let spread throughout DHS, and i think an actual golden retriever would be better prepared for those questions than mullin will be
I would offer that the issue is not so much polyamory as it is people who write essays about their relationships
To be fair, for every βyikes on bikes, your poly relationship is not nearly as healthy as you seem to think it isβ essay there are like 40 equivalent essays from monogamous folks
looking forward to @theophite.bsky.social starting the hunger games boom cannon again
Secretary Kristi Noem @Sec_Noem Thank you @POTUS Trump for appointing me as the Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas. @SecRubio and @SecWar are incredible leaders and I look forward to working with them closely to dismantle cartels that have poured drugs into our nation and killed our children and grandchildren. The Western Hemisphere is absolutely critical for U.S. security. In this new role, I will be able to build on the partnerships and national security expertise, I forged over the last 13 months as Secretary of Homeland Security. We have made historic accomplishments at the Department of Homeland Security to make America safe again: we delivered the MOST secure border in American history, 3 million illegal aliens have left the U.S., we have located 145,000 children, FEMA delivered disaster relief at a 100% faster rate, we ushered in the golden age of travel, saved the American taxpayer $13 billion and revitalized the U.S. Coast Guard.
oh my goodness she seems to think Special Envoy for the Shield is a real job
Iβve been asked if I would support Sen. Mullin as Noemβs replacement.
The answer is a resounding NO. The rot in DHS is deep, much deeper than any individual.
Itβs a question of policy not personnel. The Senate should not consider any DHS Secretary nominee until DHS and ICE are reined in.
(per my previous repost, that myth is very much tied to racial polarization and the βwhite conservatives are the normative Americansβ belief implicitly held by a lot of actors and observers in the political process)
this chart really undermines the veracity of the βRepubs are a broad national party/Dems are in bubblesβ myth that a lot of people in both parties and the punditocracy are super attached to
I get that it's probably a little more awkward due to the translation but "in which they have neither camel nor she-camel" is an idiom that intrigues me
c'monnnnn shingles i'm rootin' for ya, kiddo
i try my humble best
oh not even remotely
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The manila folder in my mental file cabinet labelled 'things I know and can reasonably theorize about Elon Musk's penis' was once a comfortingly empty placeholder that sat at the back of a drawer, untouched
I would like to return to those halcyon days
Not like
The worst thing in the past ten years
But this decade has involved 1000% more public and political discussion of straight men's penises, penis issues, and penis accessories than I am really comfortable with as a Known Penis Appreciator
