I'm reviewing my list of "in progress" gamedev projects right now. It's basically 20 subfolders, each earmarked for a project. 10 of these folders are empty or contain a single document with less than a paragraph of text. 7 have partially-written rules but are unplayable. 3 are fully playtestable.

I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. Jokes on them...it was still linked to my events spreadsheet, and now their website looks like this 😉

Seriously. Loved the first two but got burned by Destiny 2 removing the content I was playing, while I was playing it. And not being a big fan of extraction shooters.

But tease me with some PvE Durandal, Leela, and Tycho...

We invested a ton in our mission builder for exactly this reason.

You can write and ship a new mission with minimal, Age of Empires-like scripting and config, plus tagging. Minutes, not weeks. The biggest barrier now is coming up with something worth the player's time.

I feel like most devs want to be cooks, few realize they need to be chefs, and the restauranteurs are intent on only hiring bussers and only if they have to.

I really wish more resources and papers would go to Cornell's arXiv archive.

It's a PITA for authors but not much more so than other common publishers.

Every time I email a paper's author, I ask if they could please submit to arXiv as well, and I'll donate $5 to a charity of their choice if so.

The only way the United States ends up with any games industry at all in the next 5 years is if American investors stand up and fund indies working to do things differently.

Indies doing right by their teams.

Employee-owned co-ops. Democratic studios. Mutual aid indie groups.

They need support.

We have a bunch of SM6.0 stuff we want to use for perf reasons, but it's a gambit to see if the market will finish transitioning to newer graphics cards right now.
