I can understand the localized attribution error though. Lots of people who experienced getting laid off, or are experiencing the threat of layoffs, with execs citing AI (truthfully or not).
They don’t always see that just as many companies are hiring aggressively (often also citing AI).

Some personal news - after 15 years, today is my last day at Amazon Web Services.
From rewriting the way we bought retail inventory on day 1 to writing agents on day 5705, it’s been an interesting journey.
I’m also excited about what’s next but…more on that soon.

I dunno when or where it’s worth mentioning this (probably everywhere), but I don’t use AI to create any stuff I post online (unless explicitly mentioned, in which case it’s usually comedic/satirical).
I first learned about the /ai page from @cassidoo.co . I intend to make my own at some point!
I think the reason it’s so bothersome is if I wanted to know what an AI thinks about something I can just…ask it directly? Somebody slapping their own name on it feels disingenuous somehow in a social media context.

Once I got active on LinkedIn I swear 50% of posts look the same now. The shame is they’re getting engagement too, so the incentives for some are to keep doing it.
I’d rather keep my voice, flaws and all.
I could see it, and might open up some fun options when you put him off the line and in motion.
If you make me guess we eventually converge on fewer higher paid developers.
But I don’t hold that view strongly.
That’s why I think your overall point stands. But I also think in the short term there’s gonna be a divergence in companies hiring up at any cost, and companies looking for cost savings quickly.
They’ll converge eventually since companies want to pay as little as they can.
I think your overall point stands but in the micro I’m watching for who is trying to grow and who is trying to save margin.
My instinct says they’ll pay closer to top of market on average to get the best people.
I do suppose what matters at the end of the day is the total demand for developers because nobody wants to pay more than they have to. But I think some companies will already pay a premium for AI devs.
I think you’re going to see a greater separation between companies seeking growth (more engineers to leverage AI, more product) versus profits (keep costs down while keeping the lights on).
Same as it’s always been but cranked up to 11. The sorting will be rough though.
Every stupid fundraising email they send off the backs of this “deal” is getting marked as spam. I’m tired.

I feel like you could 100% create what we are seeing as a sort of performance art, but it’s funny to see people treat it like emerging intelligence instead of “it’s matching the trained data of what social media posts look like”.
So TIL ICE kidnapped someone driving their kid to school, in front of their kid, on the same route I take to bring my own kid to daycare.
This isn’t something you reform.
The eventual collapse will be a lot more funny though.
