I always work to meet my deadlines because it's not fair to inconvenience everyone else who is working on your book. When I miss a deadline I make sure I turn around edits/copyedits asap to get things back on schedule. Don't take advantage of the grace of other people if you can avoid it.

Ann Godoff, a Top Editor and Publisher of Best Sellers, Dies at 76

The way, when she came to speak at the Radcliffe Publishing Course, I made it my mission to try to be like her. So sad. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/25/b...

Liederkranz cheese - Wikipedia

Invented in 1891 by Swiss cheesemaker in New York, Emil Frey. He would go on to invent Velveeta 32 years later.

The new novel, tentatively scheduled for March 2027, is in three parts, which roughly correspond physically or thematically to oystercatchers, kingfishers, and cormorants. It incorporates many details from the PNW coast. There is an irruption of migratory birds in it. Also, an eye sheds cosmic rays.

The Poster's Madness Rat King Special (2/24/2026) YouTube video by Posters Madness

so instead of watching the SotU, a bunch of us spent last night doing silly presentations and raising fifteen thousand dollars (!!!) for a variety of good causes

if you'd like to see me rant about star wars in person, I'm at about the 2:15 mark in the video, but the whole thing is phenomenal

historical detail I can't help but bring up: by some accounts, the event that instigated the British soldiers to open fire on Crispus Attacks and the rest of the crowd in the Boston Massacre was a soldier being hit by a snowball

I want a broader range of historical romances. Give me ancient worlds, Africa, South America, even France and Spain feel more interesting. And forgotten niches of history (have you heard about all the people trying to build utopian communes during the Regency? It went bad so dramatically!).

not to toot my own horn but part of why I was ranting about romcoms earlier is because when I had a romcom idea, my FIRST step was to read and analyze a BUNCH of recent ones to get better acquainted with the genre, and oh my god it was fun

Why I Write | The Orwell Foundation "What I have most wanted to do throughout the past ten years is to make political writing into an art. My starting point is always a feeling of partisanship, a sense of injustice."

"The opinion that art should have nothing to do with politics is itself a political attitude."

- George Orwell, 1946

The Love We See in Minneapolis Isn’t Exceptional β€” It’s How We Survive Together A beautiful web is being woven in Minnesota: not with new materials but with wisdom that was already here.

A beautiful and deeply important piece. Please read.

Content notes or warnings let people decide whether they are ready to read what follows. We have to care about readers because we don’t know what they’ve gone through in their lives. They are not spoilers but an act of compassion. I appreciate people who include them in books, emails, and posts.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

British Museum removes the word 'Palestine' from ancient displays Information placards in the ancient Middle East gallery have been changed.

Complete and utter insanity in the capitulation to the Zionist lobby.

The British Museum besides stealing West Asian and Palestinian history is now actively erasing it.

Most viruses, you catch them, your immune system learns them, locks their details in the control room, and then you can fight them in the future. Measles not only doesn't leave you that data, it blows up the control room. No immune memory for YOU good DAY.

From Bridgerton to Heated Rivalry, what’s the secret to a good book-to-TV romance? More and more romance adaptations are starting to appear – but what makes the translation from page to screen really sing?

In a (vain, probably) attempt to combat the flood of romance-illiterate Valentine's Day thinkpieces, I wrote two of my own this year - one with @profromance.bsky.social about romance adaptations...

This is something the Nazis used to do to Jewish children in the camps. It happened to a man I knew when he was a child in Auschwitz. The camp guards thought it was funny as hell.
