Weather Report #1 - at://news Feb. 27 - Mar. 6 2026

Great atmospheric experiment with collective curation + publishing pipeline!

Would love to support ways to publish more collaborative in @leaflet.pub but even now things like open collections in @semble.so make it easy to prototype in this direction!

Astute observers of our @tangled.org repo will observe that we did in fact do just that! Will announce shortly :)

I def get that haha, playing with Hyperlink recently and still miss parts of it, both the more learning focused vibes and cozy collab workspace stuff. I think all of us would love to work more aspects of that vision back into what we can do w/ Leaflet + the broader atmosphere ecosystem here!

i'm just an onlooker but it seems like @leaflet.pub is such a good example of a technology that waited around for the right wave and then rode it: leaflet existed as just a document editor on the web for a long time before the atproto wave came around, and then it all locked into place

Yeah! Cool to see the leaflet lore on here haha, been a long process from hyperlink to leaflet & this time last year early in exploring the atproto direction…realizing that show HN was exactly a year ago, we should maybe do another for Leaflet-the-social-publishing-app!

Niceee! Got coffee w/ @rishkebab.blacksky.team recently too actually, all kinds of stuff to explore here!

Oh cool! Just read, great post. Sorry to hear browsing is harder these days. Certainly not the same but making me think how we need better ways to browse digitally w/o losing the texture, spatial context, thingness of books…serendipitous spatial interface e.g. for browsing thriftbooks could be cool.

Posted on realizing this is one of my few recent threads on here…I guess I'm less in the thread modality lately, but also, need to blog more 😅

On browsing bookstores well… Getting the most out of bookstore browsing by picking the right stores, scanning the right sections, embracing place-ness and exploring the adjacent possible

Quick one adapted from an older thread — on how to browse bookstores well! I'd love to hear other ways *you* get the most out of time spent browsing bookstores 📚

This looks great, excited to see how Chive develops! Lots of cool potential for ecosystem interop here :)

Very cool! Would love to hear if anything comes to mind that'd make Leaflet more useful for scientific publishing / communication. Imagining prob less for papers but for collab work & communication, supplementary artifacts, etc…always open to ideas!

I'm not sure if *ideal* to have paper-as identity (could be modeled w/ custom lexicons etc) but per-paper feed is a cool idea…and interesting to think about what kinds of things besides people & orgs should have atproto identities!

Collaborative projects & publications could be a good one

Call for abstracts: Rewilding the Web: diversity and resilience in digital infrastructure This workshop will bring together ecologists, philosophers, cultural theorists, and technologists to discuss how contemporary insights from theoretical biology and ecology can provide a richer understanding of what makes for a thriving biosphere, and how this might provide inspiration for cultivating sociotechnical infrastructure that is more resilient against co-option by monopolising tendencies.

@kathrynnave.bsky.social and Dave Ward are organising a workshop in Edinburgh on rewilding the web at the end of May! I'll be speaking about https://anil.recoil.org/papers/2025-internet-ecology there, and I hope to see some of you there too!

I know not ideal for capture (& time-consuming to convert later) but thinking how Leaflet could be cool for presentation…we should def add more ways to embed stuff, audio, etc :)

Something cool about part-personal / part-social artifacts

(pre-atproto leaflet demo doc! leaflet.pub/09d26a50-c86...)

Nice yeah my impression is most things in this direction are more like fitness or location logging, but def a whole rich space to explore around the more social elements, conversations, memories, ideas etc…could build a whole embodied digital garden atop prospect park walks haha

06.03.2026 16:09 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

This is cool, like a mix of blog / digital garden / link log… strikes me that this kind of thing would be *really* good on atproto!

Could be a single doc (like a @leaflet.pub looseleaf) & e.g. a new subpage each week, embed links or @semble.so collections, ppl can comment, re-share when updated…

06.03.2026 16:06 👍 5 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0

Familiar route spotted 👀 I know there are folks exploring location & activity app ideas (and more general geo lexicon working group), idk about walks specifically but sounds like a cool idea!

Hopefully increasingly more ppl will just have an atproto acct already, and oauth has improved a lot lately, but yeah it'd be great to have better generic acct creation! For leaflet we'll have an option to sub to a pub just w/ email & link atproto later, may help a little.

I've shared this before but…I really like that we have this option!

Feel like it sits btw minimalist thread alternative & Medium post; real quick to make (can draft even w/o logging in!) + easily expands to more complex stuff w/ subpages etc. Fun to see how many uses extend beyond "blog post"!

Gizmos, gadgets, contraptions, thingamajigs, assemblages, doohickeys — so many wonderful words for mechanical / morphological enigmas.

Collection + publication is an *excellent* combo!

04.03.2026 00:15 👍 13 🔁 5 💬 3 📌 0

Oooh yes love that idea! A really cool thing to do in Leaflet (+ collectively, w/ shared standards etc) would be more powerful custom blocks…both "lexicon embeds" (like rich cross-app atproto embeds) but also fully custom, and ways to re-use across your own stuff + share for others

yeah most (all for now I think?) unverified, like bridged RSS feeds basically, they're planning a way for site owners to verify but for now you prob want to just filter em out
