What a tragedy it would be for any other woman to spend more than 20 years believing she is unfixable with an incurable mental disorder that will never allow her to acclimate in society. We have to talk about all the aspects of diagnoses, not just symptomatology.
We are more than symptoms.
It is so important for girls and women to have their dysfunctional behaviors properly assigned to what happened to them. While medication may work for some people to control this, it doesn't for everyone.

Several years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD and my doctor said I should get a second opinion about the Bipolar Disorder, but hadn't known me when I was younger so didn't feel comfortable telling me the diagnosis was wrong, because having been hospitalized a single time for my actions met criteria.
This diagnosis followed me around everywhere, despite that many of the people who knew me questioned the validity as I didn't meet the diagnostic criteria. It took me decades to own it and wear it with pride. This was in spite of the fact that people, especially men, used it as a pejorative.
When I was 19, I tried to take my own life after I had been sexually assaulted several times, including by a group of college students at a frat house by the time I was 18. It came 2 weeks after I had been trafficked into torture and abuse pornography. I was diagnosed this time with Bipolar Type I.
I thought I was born broken. In 2000, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and put on Effexor XR, which made me suicidal. My doctor didn't give me an Adverse Childhood Experiences questionnaire, nor did he ask me anything about my homelife or school experiences at all.
