#RhodesScholar Noorain Khan has spent her career lifting others up, from Oxford to law, to philanthropy, and to President of Girl Scouts USA.
The Rhodes Scholarship, she says, gave her "permission to step off the conventional path and engage with the world more authentically."

On World Book Day, we are shining a spotlight on the thriving African short story reading group among our #RhodesScholar community. Since their first meeting in November 2023, they've gathered 15 times and read 30 short stories. Their goal is to read a story from every African country.

Congratulations to our #RhodesScholar Elect from Jamaica! Tiana Dinham, a major in Geographical Sciences, plans to pursue the MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management and later a DPhil on Geography and the Environment, with the goal of helping ensure that all Jamaicans have access to clean water.

Recognised as 2025 Nat Geo Young Explorers, #RhodesScholars Lana Alabbasi and Max Han spent a week at the National Geographic Society HQ in Washington DC where they received training on effective communication, leadership and impact, and tailored guidance on their independent projects.

On Friday evening we hosted a Shabbat dinner at Rhodes House, co-organised with Jewish #RhodesScholars. Shabbat, the day of rest, occurs from sundown on Friday until sundown on Saturday every week. Scholars gathered in Rhodes House to break bread together over some delicious food and conversation.

#RhodesScholar John van Zyl discovered radio as a schoolboy β debating, participating in radio programmes, and learning the power of sound to shape society.
"The concept of community radio was a very political one. It was meant to be the peopleβs voice," he shared for our Oral History Project.

Last week we hosted our panel discussion in partnership with The World Reimagined, on the topic of AI in Education. We welcomed speakers Kelly Webb-Davies, Seth Washington and Suki Fuller + moderator Jovan Owusu-Nepaul. They shared their learnings from policy, intelligence, linguistics and beyond.

At the start of the year, a group of #RhodesScholars embarked on an immersive hiking and camping trip in Chilean Patagonia. During the trip, the Scholars stepped outside of the academic sphere, learning new skills and ways of encountering a place, as well as building community with each other.
