2/ And in that world, where more countries pursue nuclear weapons, the inevitable consequence is either more military strikes to prevent them—or more countries with nuclear weapons.

Delaware's Congresswoman. Congresswoman Sarah McBride and her congressional staff use this page to share news & services relevant to Delaware. This is her official government Bluesky page.

1/ I want to point out something that’s getting lost in the conversation around Donald Trump’s foreign policy: regardless of what happens in the short term, we’ll be living with the long-term consequences of blowing up international rules and replacing them with a “might makes right” world.
I voted in favor of the War Powers Resolution to push back against Trump’s reckless & illegal war. The Iranian regime is evil, just as Saddam Hussein was—but that doesn’t make war smart or responsible. Congress must assert its authority & protect American troops & taxpayers from another forever war.
The SAVE Act would force Americans to show documents that tens of millions don’t have in order to access the ballot box.
This bill won’t protect our elections. It will just make it harder for American citizens to vote.

Thank you to the Delaware Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for stopping by my office today. I’m grateful for the work you do to support veterans across our state. Now more than ever, we must ensure that those who serve our country have the resources, care, and support they deserve.
2/ This is a moment of choosing. If we choose to learn from history and do the hard work of changemaking, I still believe we can build a more perfect union.
1/ Every 80 years, our country faces an inflection point as the last living memory of the previous one disappears. From the Revolution to the Civil War to World War II to today, we have faced a choice: do we destroy or do we build.
Defending Delaware is my north star — and the people of our state are what keep me grounded. On #302Day, I’m celebrating all that makes our state of neighbors the greatest state in the Union.
2/ What occupies his mind is decorating his billionaire-funded ballroom.
1/ Donald Trump isn’t worried about the four American servicemembers killed or that he’s started another forever war.
He isn’t worried about the crushing cost of living working families are facing.
He isn’t worried about reigning in his administration’s abuses of power.

I am heartbroken that three U.S. servicemembers lost their lives yesterday. I am praying for them, for those injured, and for all of their families. When the president puts our brave servicemembers in harm’s way, there are real and painful consequences. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
This president appears determined to drag our country into yet another regime change war overseas rather than addressing problems here at home. Whether a full-scale regional war in the Middle East unfolds today or sometime in the future, this president’s shoot-first-ask-questions-later foreign policy inevitably leads to one place in the end: death, destruction, and destabilization. This president routinely shreds both the progress and potential of diplomacy, just as he did when he destroyed the previous Iran nuclear deal. And just as he has done again this weekend, being far too willing to put the lives of American servicemembers at risk when achievable diplomatic and multilateral solutions exist to prevent a nuclear Iran or to secure the human rights of the Iranian people. Military action should be an option of last resort, not your dessert round as you lounge at your personal resort. Through all of this, he has kept the American people — and Congress — in the dark about the realistic plans, potential risks, and true goals of this operation until it is too late. I’ve opposed reckless military action before and do so again, which is why I believe Congress must immediately reconvene to vote on a War Powers Resolution to prevent this administration from pulling us into yet another forever war.

This week's State of the Union was a theatrical, lie-riddled ordeal. But just how rampant were the president's lies? Here are just a few of his many claims and the truth that Delawareans know well.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings and I are ready to represent Delaware tonight. We won’t let Trump lie about the state of our nation to a room full of enablers. We’ll continue fighting back in Congress and in the courts against his abuse of power.
What’s so egregious about Donald Trump’s tariffs isn’t just that they were reckless—they were illegal. And the American people are paying the price.
Delaware is now under a State of Emergency as we prepare for a major blizzard. Please follow the Delaware Emergency Management Agency for updates & guidance as the storm progresses. Check on your neighbors, limit travel if possible, & take the necessary precautions. Stay safe out there, Delaware.
“For nearly a year, Donald Trump imposed what amounts to a reckless, nationwide sales tax on the American people. Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what my Democratic colleagues and I have been saying all along: these tariffs were illegal, and the Constitution makes clear that only Congress—not the president—has the authority to impose them. “In the meantime, families, farmers, and small businesses here in Delaware and across the country have paid the price. Costs have gone up. Consumers’ pocketbooks have been squeezed. The president overstepped his constitutional authority—and not even two of the justices he nominated could support that overreach. This decision is our system of checks and balances at work. “While this ruling is welcome, I am deeply concerned about what comes next. A new 10 percent global tariff will only raise costs further and create more instability here at home and with our allies abroad. There are also serious questions about refunds for those who have borne the brunt of these tariffs and how the administration will ensure consumers—not just large corporations—will receive the refunds they’re owed. “Tariffs can be a legitimate policy tool when used strategically and in coordination with Congress. But reckless, unilateral trade policy creates uncertainty, raises costs, and undermines our economic stability. “Delawareans deserve trade policy rooted in stability and accountability—not chaos and overreach. And if the president truly respected the rule of law, he would accept the Court’s decision instead of searching for ways around it.”

Today, SCOTUS sent a clear message to Donald Trump: he is not above the Constitution.
These tariffs were illegal and a direct overreach of Congress’s authority. Working families need relief from rising costs—not reckless tariffs that drive costs even higher.
The Year of the Horse brings optimism and promise—it’s a time for new beginnings, bold action, and meaningful change.
Wishing everyone in Delaware and around the world a joyful, prosperous, and healthy Lunar New Year.
Wishing a blessed and peaceful Ramadan to all who are observing in Delaware and across the globe.
May this season bring you renewal, joy, and countless moments of connection with those you love. Ramadan Mubarak.
2/ Let his memory forever serve as a reminder that the power of our hope, and our action, is foundational to progress.
Today, I am praying for his wife, Jacqueline, their children and grandchildren, and the many lives his work impacted.
1/ Reverend Jesse Jackson charged each of us to “Keep hope alive.” He organized and united working families, the voiceless, and people from every walk of life to work towards a truly more perfect union.
Presidents' Day is about celebrating leaders who put public service, the Constitution, and the American people first.
Today, I'm grateful for those presidents who fulfilled those responsibilities.
When young people face a scarcity environment—where opportunity feels limited—combined with a crisis of hope, it’s exploited by far-right politicians and movements, especially through social media, who often blame women for “taking” opportunities and normalize that rhetoric online.
3/ My heart is with his daughter, my friend, and former colleague, Andria, and all of his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
2/ He served in the United States Air Force and called being a volunteer firefighter his passion—and that spirit of service defined his life. His love for his community, our state, and our nation should inspire us all. Delaware is stronger because of his service.
1/ I’m saddened to hear of the passing of former Rep. John Viola. He was kind, compassionate, and dedicated to his family, his colleagues, and his community—values I saw up close as an advocate.
Dignity means never having to choose between your job and your family. This week, I introduced the bipartisan Flexible Leave Act to expand access to flexible, job-protected leave that works for families in Delaware & across the country. Workers deserve flexibility—not rigid, one-size-fits-all rules.
2/ This doesn’t help working families. It helps big polluters. It undermines settled science, endangers public health, and gives fossil fuel companies a license to pollute. I won’t stand by while they put corporate profits over our communities.
