While looking for cats in the Mongolian winter, I got invited to a camel race held at the edge of the Gobi Desert
Chaos ensued

I made a YouTube video about winter photography in Mongolia and Iβm gonna keep posting about it until you make all your friends and relatives watch bc I hauled 40lbs of cameras up a 4000m Mtn π€£

I still need to visit the Sahara someday.
This was the Namib desert!
Itβs an utterly stunning place. I definitely have to come back!

The first minute of my new #YouTube video, where I document a month of living amongst herders, trackers, and researchers in the deep of the Mongolian winter.
One of the toughest, most epic trips of my life

It actually held up fantastically! Battery life was poor but if you warmed up the batteries youβd magically be back at 50% haha
Haha yes Iβm working on a YouTube video!
Itβs such a unique culture and way of life. It really is incredible!

A photo of me standing at the top of a mountain in Mongolia
I spent the first month of 2026 living amongst herders, trackers, and researchers as the winter temps plummeted down to -50c
Together, we climbed 4000m tall mountains and traversed the expansive grasslands in search of some of the most elusive cats in the world

Aurora borealis above traditional Mongolian gers
About last night.
Missed the big CME event two nights ago due to my batteries, camera, and body not wanting to cooperate in -50c weather, but I was at least able to catch some remnants of glow last night
Incredible seeing such a display this far south

Happy to report that Iβm alive, and that I now know what it feels like to expose my bare genitalia in -50c weather.
By far the coldest poo of my life π
Itβs been a very tough winter in Mongolia

Not even 6hrs since landing in a new country and someoneβs already caught me being an idiot in 4k π€£π€£
Also, ice is a lot harder to slide down than youβd think

Seems like 2026 has a lot of mountains in store for meβ¦as well as multiple trips to Pakistan haha
Starting it off by spending the next few weeks amongst the peaks of Central Asia to search for Snow Leopards and Pallas Cats, but for now, Iβll leave you with some critters

It was such a cool encounter! One cub would hang by mom and the other would always be running around with mom having to growl and call them back haha, really wish we knew which cub was adopted and which wasnβt!
A polar bear mom, her cub, and her adopted cub. This is the 13th recorded case of bear adoption in the western Hudson Bay subpopulation.

Lucky 13
Researchers in Western #HudsonBay have tracked over 4600 #polarbears across 40 years
There have only been 12 confirmed cases where a mom adopted an abandoned cub
She emerged from her den in the spring with 1 cub, but when we found her again in Nov, she had 2 cubs!

Haha itβs definitely going to be rough!
We get a campfire for a few hours a day, but thatβs it, so this will be really fun π€£
Iβll be wearing a less hardcore winter boot on the flight so those boots will have to stay, but Iβm definitely bringing the big jacket on the flight!
Had to add it in the photo for dramatic effect but I suspect itβll be a tight fit regardless hahahaπ€£
A photo of my stuff sprawled out on the floor as I pack for winter camping
Packing for my next trip where Iβll be camping at 4000m/13000ft in -40c weather in Central Asia next week
Taking bets to see if I can fit everything pictured in my luggage π€£
