Books Are Meant to Be Slow. The erosion of deep reading weakens our capacity to grasp complex ideas.
It's amazing how many folks I encounter who confess to me that they don't read much fiction or don't read any books at all. Reading really is a luxurious leisurely pleasure like sipping a fine wine.

Thanks! This is a great read.
Paul McCartney sitting with a Dalmatian on his farm in Scotland during the early 1970s
My brief review: Man on the Run is an enlightening doc about Paul McCartney's time after the Beatles as the leader of Wings. Interesting take on him as a has-been or the uncool Beatle & his work ethic. Also his wife Linda's involvement as a Wing's member & their bandmates' personal views as sidemen.

Happy birthday to my little novel Starman After Midnight! One-year old today, this novel-in-stories has exceeded my expectations with great reviews showing up in Publishers Weekly and Booklist, and a fantastic audiobook recorded by Brian P. Craig. Happy birthday, Starman!
Hey Texas, get out and vote in the primary today! π³οΈ

Brendan Fraser and Akira Emoto in the movie Rental Family
My brief review: Brendan Fraser in Rental Family plays an American actor in Japan hired to be a family stand-in, a gem of a movie about the desperate need for familial connection in modern society pushed to the brink of disconnection and loneliness. Akira Emoto is fantastic as a crotchety Kikuo.
I'm excited to finish revising my current WIP novel manuscript so I can send it to my agent because I have a great idea for a new novel waiting in the wings and I can't wait to start writing that one!

RIP Jesse Jackson
Robert Duvall in Secondhand Lions
When marveling at Robert Duvall's acting, many people mention The Godfather or Lonesome Dove or Apocalypse Now, but I think of Secondhand Lionsβa late-career stunner of a performance by Duvall.
RIP Robert Duvall, one of the acting greats

Comic book mail: Amazing Spider-Man #139. Dec 1974. Writer: Gerry Conway Penciler: Ross Andru. "Day of the Grizzly!" The Grizzly isn't the best villain but there's some excellent writing from Conway concerning Peter's existential crisis about a cheap place to live & working for pennies at The Bugle.
We've been watching Wonder Man. It's great!

Oh! And after a lousy start, too. π€
