Once again sharing that I have a side account dedicated to my sketchbook/experimental work!
Once again sharing that I have a side account dedicated to my sketchbook/experimental work!
A sketchbook page with torn lined paper and a cutout drawing pasted on top. The drawing is of a serpentine creature with front paws and a flower replacing its head. It was drawn with a red pencil and brush pen.

Sticky note drawing of strangely shaped boulders in a flat grassy field. A small white bird is perched on a rock in the foreground while a long necked creature sits farther back within a clearing among the other boulders.
Wish the phone camera was any good, the fog was awesome
A watercolor painting mostly in blue, green, and purple. There are 8 randomly-jagged horizontal lines. Between each line is a different color and an organic pattern drawn in with a pen.
I'm probably wearing this motif out. It's becoming a lazy check-the-box exercise. But I do like it! The masking pen is awesome.
Watercolor and ink on 5"x7" hot press paper
An abstract watercolor painting. 8 jagged horizontal lines with the space between filled with various shades of green, yellow, and blue. Between the lines are organic shapes drawn with a blue pen.
My friend told me my work was looking very "southwest". As a dedicated East-Coaster, I felt like I needed to change the colors up.
Watercolor and ink on 5"x7" hot press paper
An abstract watercolor painting in portrait orientation with a white border around it. There are 7 horizontal jagged lines of light color. The space between the lines are different shades of yellow and orange. There is an abstract organic pattern drawn between the jagged lines.
I really like this motif. I did this one with a masking fluid pen instead of tape.

I did a few more. It's almost out of my system.

Ooo, that's wonderfully done! Really digging the color combo.
I borrowed your motif. Thanks for sharing, it is a lot of fun.

Thank you very much! I drew very carefully with my pen to achieve that.

Artist, what's your favourite part to draw?

Maybe not exactly the answer, but I really enjoy doing freeform abstract symmetrical shapes and build from there...
A scanned spread of a sketchbook. Both sides are covered in pen doodles of various patterns. The only outlier is a “worm” creature on the right page.

The beautiful thing with going back to school is having the opportunity to freely experiment without much worry. It also made me realize how bored I was with my typical work flow and BADLY needed change.
Though, there's most likely going to a point where I remigrate some of the experimental work to my main as I embrace changes.
My general rule for what I post here vs. main is "if it's experimental AND the style isn't something I could easily repeat if commissioned, it goes on the side account."
Currently gathering samples of my school art for the next candidacy review meeting. So far, my past work is overtaken by purples and blues WAY more than I expected.
A sketchbook page filled with black pen and ink drawings of various organic forms. Each shape has its own red background behind it.
Two black pen and ink drawings of organic forms each having a red background behind it.
Silly doodles from my silly class sketchbook
Cropped section of a sketchbook page. It has pencil and ink wash sketches of a jellyfish-like beast, a creature made of miscellaneous parts, and other organic shapes.

Scanned image of a sketchbook page. It’s a painting of an organic form resembling a plant’s shoot system in bluish-green. The background is a darker blue-green box with uneven edges and the rest of the page painted tan.
