Nashville Noticias staffer Estefany RodrΓguez was detained by ICE in South Nashville on Wednesday morning. There was no warrant for her arrest. Her attorneys have filed an emergency petition in federal court seeking a writ of habeas corpus, or an immediate review of whether or not her detention is legal. RodrΓguez, who was in the car with her husband β a U.S. citizen β has been following all the legal steps to citizenship. In her job, RodrΓguez has reported several stories that hold ICE accountable, and itβs unclear whether her detention was retaliation. As of Thursday afternoon, she was in Alabama en route to an ICE processing center in Louisiana.
Something I donβt think can be emphasized enough is how fast ICE is shipping the people they detain off to another state. βMove fast and break thingsβ but for people in potentially life or death situations. nashvillebanner.com/2026/03/05/j...

1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health
Oof. I hope you recover soon and they see reason quickly
New post!
Many Americans hold contradictory opinions on the same policies. Question wording effects can swing opinions by 20+ points on immigration, the budget, and transgender rights.
That's a problem for people who interpret polls for a living.

Amidst overwhelming Epstein revelations, I've heard from many scientists, especially women, about the deafening silence from so many corners. Many ask "how could things be different?"
In this post, I answer with three metaphors, grounded in the science he tried to own

Sure, but mass market newspapers werenβt profitable for the vast majority of their history. They started as ways for the wealthy to share trading info and gossip, and for the wealthy to get their political views out to voters
The market never wanted to support large-scale news gathering, it was always subsidized by the monopoly of distribution channels. Advertisers / people paying to post classifieds always brought in more than readers and didnβt care about investigative journalism and foreign bureaus
The hidden surveillance network sending Californians' license plates to Border Patrol
California residents are noticing new license plate readers that appear to be operated by the Border Patrol. Some have had confusing encounters with agents.
Independent news is wonderful and absolutely should be supported but isn't a replacement for large news organizations. e.g. you lose CNN, you lose reporters on the ground in Ukraine. That's the biggest danger to this Warner takeover, IMO
I see it's time to bring this back: Trans people deserve better journalism.

Robert Stephens saying in an exaggerated voice βIβll have it in my pocket!!β runs through my head periodically
Jumaane Williams posted last night that he was gonna make this video so I had been waiting for it β thanks to @erinbiba.bsky.social for flagging just now.
Williams speaks from a place of deep consideration for everyone involved and it shows in the way he discusses the impact and solutions.
Yikes
Including their own website!!
Can we also include @amtrak.com only posting lists of canceled trains on X, where people without accounts cannot see them?
Today, in honour of WEB DuBois's birthday in 1868, the @publicdomainrev.bsky.social features the hand-drawn infographics DuBois made with his students to depict the conditions of African-American life in 1900.

Is there still a custom State Farm commercial where a windshield is hit by a cricket ball?
He branched out
Did you read part 2 also? Wild stuff
A key challenge, and a huge source of the disconnect between Silicon Valley and the other creative industries is that, for coders, AI eliminates the drudgery so they can focus on the creative/expressive part. In every other creative discipline, it has the exact opposite effect.

Oh for sure - including the newsroom that Candice and Sarah ran for years. The whole conversation talks about them, this is just a small excerpt about a particularly extreme example in terms of physical assets
Iβve been wondering since you said this @cande313.bsky.social, which newsroom was it??
This is a fantastic conversation, strongly recommend listening to the whole thing
