We’re going to have to invent the Total Perspective Vortex just to drop him into it.

Oh, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is leaps and bounds better than The First Avenger, which saddens me because Joe Johnston is a hugely underrated director.

I’ve never seen anyone present documented evidence in either direction, but I am 100% sure that more people have been injured or killed by collapsing scaffolding than ever were per annum before we imposed the requirement.

@inmice.bsky.social I imagine this one has probably crossed your threshold already, but just in case…

In mice, sorry. It’s still a cool result but we’re years to decades away from it being available to use, if it in fact turns out to work as described in humans which it very well might not.

Mayor Mamdani Launches New Efforts to Take Sidewalk Sheds Down, Require Fewer Unnecessary Sheds

Holy crap, Mamdani is finally doing something to bring down sidewalk sheds that will actually sort of work! Sheds will no longer be required more than 40 ft. away from buildings, which will be a help to NYCHA and other towers-in-a-park complexes www.nyc.gov/mayors-offic...

(And that's not even getting into how atrocious the wayfinding and the experience of attempting to _pay_ for the airtrain and subway are now. God help you if you don't speak much English.)

Is there a single world city with a worse arrival experience than NYC? Take your pick: $8.75/head to use the airtrain, plus another $3/head to take the E or ~$5 to take the LIRR. OR: dodge 50 scam taxi touts in order to stand in line for a taxi that claims to be flat-fee but still requires a tip.

I think it's a tall ask to expect a family of 4 with luggage to take the train to the airport generally, but the get-in price for the subway + AirTrain to JFK is now $47.

zero percent chance that Susan Collins doesn't immediately drop all of this the second the general election starts if this guy wins the primary - the DoD is 100% sitting on the file on this guy and will send it to her the second he wins the nomination

Think how bad the COVID response was with Trump in charge, and that's when we still had real public health people in charge of the CDC. We have a war halfway around the world against a country of 90 million being led by a weekend Fox News Host. We're going to get what we voted for good and hard.

I mean, only the rich can afford to take helicopters from the chelsea piers to the Hamptons, and the solution to that problem is not to subsidize helicopter rides for everyone else...

Democrats may not be able to prevent Mullin's confirmation, but they can certainly turn his track record of offense and stupidity into two days of televised humiliation so spectacular that he is wounded in Trump's eyes from day 1. That is the job.

The domain blank.org was registered in February of 1996.

Heh. Heh. Heh.

Another 5 years and blank.org will be eligible to run for president. (And I was Online for at least five or six years before getting my hands on a domain name. Closer to 12 if you count BBSes.)

More seriously: I think we really do need to figure this out, because I can't see any way that we ever get a hold on our absurd level of registration and insurance fraud without RPP.

No one ever listens to my brilliant idea, which deals neatly with the resident-to-curbspace ratio problem:

Auction the permits.

If NYC would like me to remove my AirPods, NYC can reduce the ambient volume level by about 20dB. Sadly, cumulative hearing damage is part of our brand, and there isn’t a single problem this city has that someone doesn’t think can be solve by either a siren or an automated announcement or both.

Yeah we didn't build any housing in the 2020's either so Texas will take at least four of our Congressional seats. But on the bright side, all the single family homes and surface parking lots will rise up and overthrow capitalism.

The trend shift in adults per family household is so insane.

its even more insane that every important policymaker and economist thought we were slowly soaking up a glut of homes even into the 2010s.

And it’s even more insane that there are still supply-crisis skeptics today.

The whole "The Dems would be a center-right party in Europe!" line is so old and moldy that having it in your apartment would open you to eviction. This was true in like 1998, maybe, but the past 28 years have seen America move significantly to the left while Europe stagnated.
