From a child development perspective: 4yos learn through observation & imitation. They copy the people around them to understand the world. Respectfully, she does not gaf about gender expression. She just sees something interesting and wants to try it. That’s normal childhood curiosity not ideology.
A 4yo that is NOT out of mascara because she plays with an art brush and dips it in water. That is her mascara. But with that said, lemme get my child’s mascara ready. She obviously has plans.

Until adults take accountability, kids will keep responding the way their nervous systems know how to survive. Children aren’t “bad” just to be bad. Research shows much of what gets labeled as bad is the result of neglect at the relational and systemic level.
Confusing compliance with progress is doing a number in our homes and schools. A child can say “no” because they’re reasoning. A child can say “yes” and not understand what’s asked of them. Agreement isn’t the same as learning.

Learning about yourself through the lens of your children is eye-opening. I want my kids to know their feelings about me matter. We can’t build a healthy relationship if their experiences with me aren’t valued.
